Questions related to Suburban Population
I've 52 meteorological stations of the city of Girona (NE Spain) and it environs. How do I know that an area or a certain point in the territory is rural, suburban or urban. Could you use CORINE COVER land uses or local climate zones to determine whether a meteorological observatory, a point in the territory or an area is urban, rural or suburban? I need your help for urban climate studies.
the relationship between pedestrian infrastructure and public health.
I am doing research on mass transit systems in suburban areas and am having trouble finding a variety of system-types in different areas of the world. I would much appreciate any suggestions on where to look.
I am trying to develop a realistic example relating A1C (or blood sugar) to age and gender in a rural population, but I do not think that whether the data are from rural, suburban, or urban subjects is important. I was wondering if someone has either A1C means and SDs by age and gender (grouped would be OK) or a raw data set (no identifiers) they would be willing to share with me? I am trying to develop a realistic, but fictional example for a project I am working on.
Thank you in advance for any data or suggestion of where to find!
With appreciation,
Jim McLean
I am from India. I am an architecture student lives in Varanasi. Here the most of the population is dwelling in plotted residential housings which costs from 1K-3K per sqft and most of the plot sizes are ranging from 1800 - 2100 sqft. For better understanding of context, people and their budget, I am sharing the land rate and plot sizes. Courtyards are not affordable for this bigger part of Modern City's population. I want to know how can a middle class person can afford the benefits of courtyards which was free of cost in their ancestral period in villages or suburban areas.

is there any global database for obtaining the population density of a small town? especially in the developing countries? thanks
I'm modelling insect populations over time (1968 - present) in the UK at over 500 sites. I have detected a decline in sites that are mainly suburban (based on 500m radii using the CEH Land Cover Map 2015). I would like to know which of these sites were already suburban in 1968, and which had been developed at some point over the time series. Ideally, I would like something like a gdb file showing the urban/suburban land cover of 1968 so I could calculate exactly how much development has occurred at each site, but I know this probably does not exist. My best idea so far is to go on old-maps.co.uk and inspect each site manually, looking for the closest map to 1968 and judging on a yes/no basis whether development has occurred since then. Can anyone recommend a better method for measuring urban development since the 1960s?
It is similiar to boundary generation algorithm.
This paper is a part of phase 2of a PhD project aimed at probing into new teachers’ issues of socialization, learning and change in the first years in middle China, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. This study focuses on the image of self-as-teacher, workplace learning, developing as a new teacher as well as experiences of teaching in the workplace, etc. Semi-structured interviews were used with the framework of Flores, which was revised according to the Chinese contexts. In phase two, 14 new teachers participated the study. From the analysis finds most of new teachers refer their perceptions have changed negatively; the most challenging duties, the most significant experiences and the most relevant experiences are mainly about students and teachings. These have great relation with Chinese exam-oriented exam system. Heavy wo
lack of time, poor student quality, short of funds are reiterated in the paper. Findings also found that most of Chinese new teachers unless from suburban did not care workplace conditions as western teachers. Critical incidents with new teachers and narratives of five school leaders’ are also discussed in the end.
As we all know that based on their experiences & perceptions of urbanization & trends, western theories contextualize generalization to the the third world cities. there are lot of ambiguity and confusion about it. One of the interesting discussions participated by Prof.Ananya Roy & Solomon Benjamin has illustrated the direct examples to disapprove to unify the global theory of sub-urbanisation.
Annaya Roy directly disfavored these arguments and suggested these generalization are not the universal ones as they can not spread beyond certain boundaries, hence they are not hegemonic theory. Similarly, Prof.Benjamin suggested that this big terminologies loose its significance to explain the realistic situation at micro level and that too from global south cities. He emphasized upon the ethnographic cases which could directly give the flavor of that case/ site.
Definitely, the formulation of theories should come from the empirical understand of the local cases, then it can be validated for similar context featuring homogeneous characteristics in terms of governance, economy and institutional aspects.
