Asthma and mould exposure in childhood and adolescence The appearance of a mould infestation is seen by the general public as the most relevant of indoor toxic substance problems. The complexity of the problems of mould exposure requires an objectification in the public. An improvement of the medical diagnostic and therapeutic methods can be made through a collective effort by professional associations and industry. Furthermore, the education and further training of doctors related to this subject must be increased. When taking all facts and findings into consideration a sensible and successful clinical diagnostics, prevention and therapy of children and adolescents with asthma and mould allergies is possible. Zusammenfassung Das Auftreten eines Schimmelpilzbefalls wird von der Bevölkerung als das relevanteste Innenraumschadstoffproblem angesehen. Die Proble-matik der Schimmelpilzexposition bedarf einer Versachlichung in der Öffentlichkeit. Durch gemeinsame Anstrengung von Fachgesellschaften und Industrie kann eine Verbesserung der medizinisch-diagnostischen und therapeutischen Methoden erzielt werden. Außerdem muss die Aus-und Fortbildung von Ärzten zu dieser Thematik verstärkt werden. Bei Berücksichtigung aller Fakten und Erkenntnisse ist eine sinnvolle und erfolgreiche Diagnostik, Prävention und Therapie von Kindern und Jugendlichen mit Asthma und Schimmelpilzallergie möglich.
