P. G. Bowers's scientific contributions
What is this page?
This page lists the scientific contributions of an author, who either does not have a ResearchGate profile, or has not yet added these contributions to their profile.
It was automatically created by ResearchGate to create a record of this author's body of work. We create such pages to advance our goal of creating and maintaining the most comprehensive scientific repository possible. In doing so, we process publicly available (personal) data relating to the author as a member of the scientific community.
If you're a ResearchGate member, you can follow this page to keep up with this author's work.
If you are this author, and you don't want us to display this page anymore, please let us know.

Quantum yields of triplet state formation and extinction coefficients of the triplet states have been determined by direct depletion methods for solutions of anthracene, phenanthrene, 1,2,5,6-dibenzanthracene, fluorescein, dibromofluorescein, eosin and erythrosin. The values obtained for the hydrocarbons are in reasonable agreement with those obtai...
The method of flash photolysis has been used for direct measurement of the quantum yields of triplet formation in dilute chlorophyll solutions at 23 ^circC. In ether solution, the triplet yields were found to be 0.64 and 0.88 for chlorophyll a and b, respectively. In very dry hydrocarbon solution, the yields decrease by at least a factor of 5. It i...

... Estimates of the quantum yields of intersystem crossing to the triplet state (Φ ST ) of the dyes in the presence of DNA were obtained by flash photolysis from the actinometric data using as an actinometer an aqueous solution of eosin (Sigma-Aldrich), for which, at pH 9, Φ ST = 71 ± 10% 4 [28]. The sensitivity of the experimental setup was about 0.1-0.2%. ...
... It is well known that the lifetimes of singlet and triplet Chl, and the rates of ISC which enable 3 Chl * formation in the first place, are dependent on the solvent 31,[44][45][46][47] . It therefore follows that the diverse protein and membrane environments found in biological organisms would also influence these lifetimes and ISC rates 44,[48][49][50] . ...
