Objective: Examine perceptions about the Papanicolaou (Pap) test from the perspectives of Chilean women with cervical cancer. Design: A descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted in Santiago, Chile. Participants: 127 Chilean women. Results: The principal reasons for not having had a PAP test were procrastination and barriers related to fear, embarrassment, discomfort, not caring, lack of time, and lack of knowledge. Conclusion: All the reasons given by the Chilean women who took part in the study must be considered by health care professionals who are in a position to advocate for education and cervical cancer screening for women, especially in countries where the disease is still prevalent. These results can serve as a guide for education programs and can be applied in intervention research.

Objective: the purpose of this revision is to analyze studies of prevention programs in HIV in order to determine what aspects should be included in successful HIV prevention programs with women. Design and method: a literature review was carried out using searches done in the databases Proquest and CINAHL, Pubmed and Scielo. The search was limited by the criteria of full text only, within the last ten years and free access, written in Spanish or English. Fifteen articles were selected for the following revision. Results: all of the selected articles measured the effect of an intervention on knowledge and behaviours related to HIV/AIDS. Fourteen articles produced significant changes in positive behaviours or knowledge related to the prevention of HIV. Conclusions: prevention programs in HIV with socially disadvantaged women can be effective in provoking changes in behaviours and knowledge associated with HIV. Successful interventions were those based on prevention theories or models of behavior change and adapted to the culture of the sample.

Objective: to present the areas of research in the School of Nursing at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile between 2001 and 2004, as well as presenting a new proposal for increased impulse in nursing research. Methodology: development was carried out in four phases: I. Evaluation of current scientific production through the revision of the organization's annual plans; II. Analysis of information provided by key informants; III Literature review and group work with academics from the organization; IV. Triangulation of information. Results: sixty per cent of the scientific production in the School of Nursing at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile between 2001 and 2004 could not be organized within the determined areas or lines of research for those years. Diverse proposals were elaborated in order to allow academics to incorporate themselves into the new areas of research avoiding dispersion and centralizing common strengths among existing projects. After the triangulation of information, three new areas of research were created: 1. Formation of human resources in health, 2. Nursing Care Management and 3. Strengthening of clinical nursing. Conclusions: it is suggested that researchers from the SON-UC orient their work towards those areas identified, which will contribute to strengthening research and improving both internal and external visibility of the academic entity; attracting new resources for research.

... The current main and secondary preventative measures, and conventional screening methods, which rely on cervical-vaginal cytology and viral genotyping testing, have shown varying levels of accuracy in detecting and identifying cervical cancer. In addition, the implementation is hindered by long durations of delivering results [4][5][6]. Image-based diagnostic procedures, such as colposcopy, possess limitations as they need specialized training and rely on subjective expertise. The gold standard for diagnosis is colposcopy, which may be followed by a biopsy if necessary. ...
