The vast diversity of yeasts uncovered from the gut of beetles and wood roaches encouraged researchers to examine the yeast community in the gastrointestinal tracts of termites and discover undescribed yeast species. Decades ago, two parallel studies [4,5] reported the presence of symbiotic yeasts in termite guts.
