... B. velezensis is one of the newest strains of Bacillus. Therefore, B. velezensis is more likely to produce new antimicrobial compounds, which has received more attention (Deng et al. 2023;Liu et al. 2020;Suchi et al. 2023;Ye et al. 2018). B. velezensis was first isolated from the mouth of the river Vélez in Málaga (Southern Spain) in 2005 (Ruiz- García et al. 2005). ...
... Until now, the genus Shewanella comprised 82 validly published species [3], inhabiting various environments, e.g. marine sediments, freshwater, iron-rich sediment, and fish [4][5][6][7][8]. Shewanella has been shown to utilize diverse electron acceptors in anaerobic respiration of various energy sources, such as nitrate, nitrite, thiosulphate and iron oxide. ...
... Both ANI values were above the species boundary value (ANI, >95-96%) used to distinguish species [40,41], confirming that strain AS_2 is a Peribacillus species. Surprisingly, DSM 8801 T and N3 T had an ANI value of 96.7%, which was congruent with the dDDH value of 75.1% (results not shown), because the latter was described by [15] later than strain DSM 8801 T [42], which was reclassified by [43,44]. We thus recommend reclassification of P. castrilensis N3 T 's position within the Peribacillus genus. ...

... A wide range of metabolic capabilities have been recorded for this genus, including aerobic anoxygenic photoheterotrophic and chemoorganoheterotrophic metabolisms using a range of carbon compounds (Weber and King, 2007). The bacterial isolate designated as 3bis3 is most closely related to Bacillus solitudinins, an alkaliphilic and moderately halophilic Bacillus strain recently discovered in alkali soils in Nima County, Tibet, China (Liu et al., 2019). Analysis of the 16S rRNA sequence of isolate 3bis5 revealed its classification as Sutcliffiella horikoshii, a novel genus within the Bacillus clade characterized by differences in nine conserved signatures indels (CSIs) . ...

... The first prokaryote genome to be sequenced was Haemophilus influenzae in 1995 (Fleischmann et al. 1995), but the high cost and time-consuming process of genome sequencing prevented significant progress in this area. However, advancements in this field, as well as the introduction of high-throughput sequencing methods, have made it possible to obtain low-cost and high-quality bacterial genome sequences (Liu et al. 2019). Minimal standards for the use of genome data (like genome completeness, quantity, and others) in prokaryote taxonomy have also been proposed (Chun et al. 2018). ...

Similarly, several other instances of proposed synonyms are supported by our ANI-defined approach and have been incorporated into the GTDB taxonomy (Supp. (Riojas et al., 2018); Bacillus plakortidis and B. lehensis as synonyms of B. oshimensis (Liu et al., 2019); Burkholderia pseudomallei as a synonym of B. mallei (Varghese et al., 2015), and Halomonas sinaiensi as a synonym of H. caseinilytica (Oren, 2017). Note that 192 (52%) of the 370 ANI-defined synonyms are not based on type strains because genome assemblies are not available (Supp. ...
... The family Bacillaceae, part of the phylum Firmicutes, was first described by Cohn in 1872.
