The land-cover thematic accuracy of NLCD 2001 was assessed from a probability-sample of 15,000 pixels. Nationwide, NLCD 2001 overall Anderson Level II and Level I accuracies were 78.7% and 85.3%, respectively. By comparison, overall accuracies at Level II and Level I for the NLCD 1992 were 58% and 80%. Forest and cropland were two classes showing s...

... Hydro-Blocks' core is the Noah-MP vertical land-surface scheme (Niu et al., 2011). Here, HydroBlocks is spun up for 2 years and uses 30-m soil type and land cover maps from the Probabilistic Remapping of SSURGO (POLARIS) Chaney et al., 2019) and National Land Cover Database (NLCD) (Homer et al., 2012) data sets, respectively, and one-eighth degree NLDAS-2 meteorology (Cosgrove et al., 2003;Mitchell et al., 2004) with NCEP Stage-IV radar rainfall (∼4 km) data (Lin & Mitchell, 2005). The state of the land surface is output from HydroBlocks hourly and used to specify surface values in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. ...
... DEM data were obtained and analyzed to estimate the slope and orientation coefficients of the topography in each buffer. We also calculated a composite terrain complexity index (CTCI) to evaluate terrain complexity within each buffer (Wickham et al., 2010). The road density (RD) within each buffer was determined using the approach presented by Ou et al. (2013). ...
