Objective Impulsivity has been robustly linked to various addictions, including behavioral addictions. This systematic review aimed to investigate possible relationships between impulsivity and gaming disorder. Method A total of 1,710 empirical studies, without date or language restrictions, were retrieved from Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, PubMed, PsycNET, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. In total, 16 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included for extraction, quantitative analysis, and integrative synthesis. Results Overall, a positive association was observed between gaming disorder and both self-reported measures of impulsivity and behavioral measures of impulsivity. Gaming disorder was associated with the presence of high-risk trends, high sensitivity to rewards, reduced inhibitory control, and low self-control among video game players. Conclusion The present systematic review provides preliminary support for the robust association between impulsivity and gaming disorder. However, given the methodological heterogeneity in assessment instruments and statistical procedures, the identified association should be interpreted cautiously.

Grief Experience and Substance Misuse: An Integrative Review

The substance abuse comprises a large population and is considered a serious public health problem. Some data indicate that approximately 271 million people have used substances throughout their lives and it is estimated that 0.6% of the world population has problems related to drug use. It is known that grief is a process of cognitive elaboration in the face of an important loss and can threaten the physical and psychological integrity of the individual, in addition to affecting their quality of life. In this sense, research indicates a relationship between substance abuse and the grief experience, since drugs are established as a coping strategy in the elaboration of the breaking of significant bonds. Against this background, this integrative review proposes to discuss the association between drug use and the process of mourning and to report some of the current studies on the subject.

From the perspective of a technological revolution, today, we live a daily life based on the relationship between the individual and technology, where the rise of the role of digital media stands out. Faced with this situation, researchers discuss the intelligent and pathological use of these media, as well as their biopsychosocial impacts. According to scientific literature, the world epidemiology of Internet addiction (IA) varies from 5% to almost 38%. This disorder is not yet included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) and the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Problems Related to Health (ICD-11). However, it is already considered a serious public health problem in several countries. Besides, studies have already established a relationship between ICD and psychiatric comorbidities (depression, anxiety, sleep disorder), in addition to causing damages to the individual in several areas of his life, such as at work/study and also in personal and parental relationships. Moreover, it has not yet been established whether the comorbidities trigger the DI or if it triggers such comorbidities. Due to its similarity with some symptoms of substance abuse, there are already some treatments such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, which shows positive results in the outcome. Therefore, it is noted that this disorder, although new, already affects a large portion of the population concomitant with pathological symptoms that impact the lives of individuals and their physical and emotional health, revealing the importance of attention and clinical care that this disorder requires.
