Seismic-stratigraphic analysis of multichannel seismic-reflection profiles indicates that the sedimentary section in the western Colombian Basin comprises five principal units. The deposition of these units was strongly influenced by the basement relief of an oceanic plateau. The five units define three depositional episodes, the middle three units defining a single episode. The depositional history of the western Colombian Basin supports plate-tectonic models of this area based on the insertion of Pacific lithosphere. -from Author

... The Hess Escarpment is an enigmatic and largely inactive structure (Holcombe et al., 1990) that parallels the Pedro Bank Fault Zone to the north. Only the southwesternmost segment of this feature, west of the San Andres Rift, has remained active into the late Cenozoic to present as a left-lateral, strike-slip fault (Bowland, 1993;Carvajal-Arenas and Mann, 2018). Previously, the full length of the Hess Escarpment has been interpreted as either a left-lateral fault active from the Cretaceous to early Cenozoic (Burke et al., 1984;Mauffret and Leroy, 1997) or a right-lateral fault active from the early to mid-Cenozoic (Boschman et al., 2014). ...
