... Visual cues are chiefly responsible for a short-range attraction while odors play the role of long-range attraction to vectors [35]. Like other pollinator insects, mosquitoes in the field have been shown to be attracted to strongly fragrant and light-colored flowers [36,37] but only certain flower odors are attractive and can elicit mosquito aggregation and feeding [38]. In this study, a strong attraction was observed towards inflorescences of M. indica, C. pallida, T. diversifolia, M. lutea, and P. hysterophorous, implying that mosquito orientation to, and location of the flowers may have been due to odor released by the individual flowers. ...
