Assessed the factor structure, reliability, and construct validity of an Italian translation of the Self-Consciousness Scale, based on responses of 290 Italian high school students (aged 15–19 yrs; 140 boys). Separate principal component factor analyses from 3 subscales (Social Anxiety [SOC], Public [PUB], and Private [PRI] self-consciousness) yielded a factor structure consistent with the original subscales. Internal consistency was .85, .82, and .78 for SOC, PRI, PUB, respectively, and test-retest reliability over a 6-wk period was .75 and .85 for boys and girls, respectively. Findings support the differentiation for the Italian version of the 3 areas of self-consciousness as the Self-Consciousness Scale was originally designed to measure.
