Undersaturated complexes (Spitskop, Pilanesberg) including carbonatites with ages ranging between 1435 and 1100 Ma (Ferguson, 1973) cut the Bushveldt complex (2050e1950 Ma) … Another famous African alkaline ring is the 2.05 Ga Phalaborwa massif (e.g. Yuhara et al., 2005) which was considered by Holmes and Cahen (1957) as the oldest known alkaline ring complex in Africa.
