The optical absorption, photostability and energy conversion efficiency of a series of heptamethine IR dyes are reported and results related to chemical structure. The high photostability and high laser energy conversion efficiency of several of the dyes indicate potential use in IR dye lasers.
Article
Several new heptamethine thiapyrylium and pyrylium dyes have been synthesized by a simple and efficient procedure starting from enaminium and heterocyclic salts. The structure of the compounds was confirmed by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry and 1H NMR.
Article
ESR studies have been made on the supersensitization of naphthothiacarbocyanine (NTCC) by some holopolar trinuclear cyanine dyes (TNC). It was found that some allopolar trinuclear cyanine dyes containing an acidic nucleus [GRAPHICS] (existing in holopolar form) can supersensitize NTCC very well; there is good correlation between DELTAI(ESR) and inc...
Article
Three new heptamethine thiapyrylium dyes containing a disubstituted amino group on the meso position in their bridged chain were investigated. 4.30 to 5.10% of the pump energy was converted to an intense infrared pulse with wavelength between 1.35 and 1.65 mum. The relation between lasing efficiency and dye concentration was also studied. These dye...

The reactions of thiazole ethiodide with aromatic aldehydes in the presence of piperidine as catalyst were investigated. It is found that the reaction is of second order. The mechanism was proposed. The rate constants, activation energies of the reactions and the thermodynamic parameters of activation were also calculated and discussed.

Three new heptamethine pyrylium dyes containing a disubstituted amino group on the meso position in their bridged chain were investigated. The solutions of the dyes in 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) of concentration ca. 10-3 M act as laser dyes transversely pumped by a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser as a pumping source. 5.6 to 9.6% of the pump energy was conver...
Article
A series of new heptamethine pyrylium dyes derived from enamine and enaminium salts has been prepared. Spectral absorptions of these dyes range from 850 nm to 1160 nm. Relation between the structure and chromophore has been discussed and kinetic study has been made on the configuration isomerization of the dyes. Photostability has been investigated...
Article
Six polymethine styryl cyanine dyes have been synthesised. The solvent effects on the maximum absorption wavelength, Stokes shifts, and fluorescence efficiencies of these dyes have been studied. E.G. McRae equation and M.F. Nicol equation describing solvent effects on absorption wavelength have been compared, and it is found that E.G. McRae equatio...

IR studies have been made on dicarbocyanines and/or triazino stilbenedisulfonic acids adsorbed on the surface of AgBr grains, and the results indicate that the dye and supersensitizer are adsorbed in a way different from that described by O. Riester due to molecular interaction through opposite charges. Light-induced ESR signals of the dyes and/or...
