In recent years, the global community has witnessed a growing awareness of the environmental challenges posed by climate change and the urgent need for sustainable development. As a significant player on the world stage, China has set ambitious goals for carbon peaking and neutrality, aiming to combat climate change while fostering high-quality economic development. This research explores the profound influence of the digital economy on reducing carbon emissions and promoting green development in China using panel data gathered from several provinces in China between 2011 and 2022 using a fixed-effects panel data approach. The paper begins by examining the role of digital technology in China’s proactive efforts to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. It delves into the transformative effects of digital trade, emphasizing how it affects traditional commerce, trade efficiency, and carbon footprints. The research also investigates the interplay between digital trade and carbon emissions, shedding light on its potential to aid environmental preservation. Also, the paper explores the concept of “externality” in industrial clustering and its impact on carbon emissions in the context of digital commerce. It discusses the establishment of carbon emission trading markets as a policy tool for reducing greenhouse gases and its synergy with digital commerce in lowering carbon emissions. The study employs panel data from various Chinese provinces to analyze the correlation between the digital economy and green development. It identifies critical factors contributing to environmental sustainability and examines the relationship between the digital economy’s growth and green growth, considering environmental regulations and geographical variations. Finally, the research offers practical suggestions to enhance the digital economy’s contribution to eco-friendly progress, emphasizing the importance of regional digital development, government regulations, and technological advancements. This comprehensive investigation provides valuable insights into the complex relationship between the digital economy and environmental sustainability in China, offering a theoretical framework and empirical evidence to guide future research and policy initiatives in the pursuit of a greener and more sustainable future.

By analyzing the sample data of 251 listed cultural enterprises’ annual reports from 2011 to 2019 in China, this study empirically analyzed the effects of digital transformation on the total factor productivity (TFP), paths of effects, and heterogeneity characteristics of cultural enterprises in China. The findings indicate that digital transformation can significantly increase the TFP of Chinese cultural enterprises. The results obtained through robustness tests and endogeneity questions verify the credibility of the findings. The paths of effects mainly include improving the efficiency of content creation, financing ability, and research and development (R&D) investment of cultural enterprises, and the boosting effect of digital transformation on TFP is more significant among enterprises that are smaller in scale, located in midwest China, and positioned within the upstream chain of a segmented industry.

This study explores the potential effects of technological advancements, such as artificial intelligence and other Fourth Industrial Revolution innovations, on the development of the tourism sector in Oman. By employing a sample of 304 respondents, this research uncovers the relationships between community participation, smart tourism infrastructure, governmental policies, and technologically advanced tourism development. We provide a detailed demographic analysis of the respondents and ascertain their preferences regarding tourist destinations and trips. Our study employs the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach, and the analysis reveals significant direct and indirect associations between the variables. We find substantial evidence that community participation and smart tourism infrastructure positively impact governmental policies and technologically advanced tourism development. Additionally, government policies significantly influenced the development of a technologically advanced tourism sector. Importantly, we also demonstrate the mediating role of governmental policies in the relationships between community participation, smart tourism infrastructure, and technologically advanced tourism development. These findings suggest that Oman can drive sustainable growth in its tourism sector by embracing technological innovations, harnessing community participation, optimizing tourism infrastructure, and implementing effective governmental policies. This will position Oman as a leading technologically advanced tourist destination, attracting techsavvy tourists and providing a balanced, enriching experience for visitors and local communities.

The maritime industry, a cornerstone of global trade and commerce, is currently undergoing a significant transformation, primarily driven by technological advancements. Human resource development (HRD) in maritime industry has become a focal point, aimed at improving operational efficiency, safety, and competitiveness. This research paper conducts an in-depth examination of digital tools and its challenges in the context of maritime HRD through bibliometric analysis. The findings indicate the presence of a variety of digital technologies, such as e-learning platforms (ELP), learning management systems (LMS), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), gamification, and artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Nevertheless, the maritime sector may encounter a range of obstacles including issues related to security concerns, skill gaps, strategic planning, change management, budget constraints, and regulatory compliance. To effectively address these difficulties, it is essential to adopt a comprehensive strategy that includes many components such as cybersecurity measures, efforts for talent development, strategic alignment, change management techniques, budgetary restraint, and legal scrutiny. The findings of this study have significant consequences for the maritime sector, governments, and the academic community. It is recommended that maritime sector can use digitization as a fundamental component of their competitiveness and safety measures.
