Special Issue Information Dear Colleagues, Polymers are materials that have a wide range of applications, ranging from simple applications (toys, domestic items) to uses in specialized areas (automotive industry, medicine, etc.). However, in order to assume the final form in which a polymer product reaches the consumer, they must undergo a transformation process, such as extrusion, injection molding, compression etc. In most cases, they require additives that help to improve their behavior or avoid detrimental effects to their properties. The present Special Issue aims to cover recent works that report the use of novel additives for modification of polymers properties to improve their thermal, mechanical, morphological, and other relevant types of properties. These additives need to be novel and original, can be from natural or synthetic nature, and should improve the properties of the polymers. The contributions can be original articles, review works, or communications. Sustainable Materials Aggregated Book

A sustainable material is one that can be either of natural or recycled origin, in the same way, that it must not contain toxic elements, it is friendly to the environment and can have a long period of life. One of the purposes of elaborating or preparing sustainable materials is to help reduce the use of natural resources. With this, a social benefit is generated, in addition to seeking to meet ... [Show full abstract] the market's needs, contributing to the growing desire and interest to conserve and protect the environment while ensuring good environmental conditions for future generations. With current technological advances, it is possible to reduce energy consumption by up to 50%, a situation that generates a positive impact by reducing carbon emissions and water consumption while taking advantage of both organic and inorganic waste. One characteristic of sustainable materials is that they must have a high recyclability content and be reusable or biodegradable. They must come from natural sources such as stones, plants, etc., and consume low energy during their life cycle. Many research groups have recently focused on developing sustainable materials using materials of natural origin, such as fibers, plant waste, and biopolymers. There are also inorganic materials that can be used for the manufacture of sustainable materials, among which sawdust, fiberglass fly ash, and some ceramics have been reported to generate materials with improved properties. Among the application areas in which this type of sustainable materials has been oriented are parts for the automotive industry, furniture, packaging, energy storage, corrosion inhibitors, and coatings, among others. The book contains selected articles published by Trans Tech Publications Inc. in the last few years and is divided into five sections: the first one report the preparation of bio-based polymers and composites, where the use of natural materials such as natural fibers, fabrics, and biopolymers have been used to improve mechanical, thermal and microstructural properties; the second one, includes materials for energy storage and conversion technologies, using for this purpose plants shell, fibers and carbon; the third section reports the use of organic materials for corrosion inhibitors, coatings and lubricants; in the fourth section, materials based on organic waste, for packing applications, design of eco-friendly composites are shown; and in the fifth section, the use of inorganic waste materials, such as glass fiber, fly ash, tetra pack, waste tyres, steel slag is reported. We hope this edition will be helpful and interesting to a broad audience of specialists in materials production and synthesis.

Typically, a commercial plastic is composed not only of the basic resin but also of many additional additives. Specifically, we have quantitatively analyzed an ABS resin for not only the amount of SAN and BD but also the concentration of a molding lubricant (ML) in the resin. The concentration of BD and SAN was estimated calorimetrically from ΔCp measurements at Tg, and the ML level was calculated from ΔHf determinations. In addition, the shifts in Tg of both the BD and SAN phases of the ABS were studied as a function of diluent concentration. The diluents in these resins are residual monomers or other “impurities”.
