Abstract

Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center, the successor of modern, postmodern architecture, is one of the most aesthetic examples of the avant-garde parametric style. It displays the constructivist aesthetic elements befitting Azerbaijan and its geography by symbolizing its national identity with its superior architectural engineering solutions and past freed from Soviet domination. The importance of research is to reveal awareness of the contribution of the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center to postmodern architecture. The research is built on the problem statement, "What is the architectural aesthetic that makes Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center special in contemporary architecture?" The research was conducted using the qualitative research method, and in order to reach the data, literature and the internet were searched, the context of innovation brought to the postmodern period of architecture was analyzed, and universal interpretations were made. In the research, the interior and exterior construction systems of the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center were investigated, and the plastic aesthetics on the exterior of the building were limited to examination. It has been concluded that the construction lines of the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center building exhibit a fluid movement that progresses in all directions in space and does not experience limited restrictions in perception. This gives the viewer the feeling of floating in space in a linear context. All shades of white (cold and warm) are used in the color plastic on the exterior of the building, showing plasticity in different colors at different times of the day. Therefore, it offers the audience a fluent and soft visuality at any time of the day. On the other hand, the fluid construction of the building, the linear elements, is the first element that attracts the viewers' attention, giving them aesthetic pleasure and different emotions. With these feelings, the sight arrows of the audience scatter in all directions on the building. In addition, the main emphasis in the construction of the building is the flowing curves of this facade. Finally, it can be said that the building's building system is formed from the combination of two central systems, the "space frame system" and the "concrete structure system." Therefore, this system allowed the construction of the building's parametric and fluid aesthetics.
