The TGIR (Très Grande Infrastructure de Recherche, Very Large Research Infrastructure) Huma‐Num has offered the humanities and social sciences (HSS) community a data publication service called Nakala. On the basis of a shared foundation, allowing the storage and organization of files, Nakala centers around modular editorial tools, which make it possible for each research project to create its own web interface for access to data. In HSS, researchers have files. When they have digitized these files, when they start to organize and document them, they become documents. And then when they organize them into knowledge, they become databases. The first version of Nakala was very basic: there was no graphical interface. Nakala plays both the national card and the disciplinary card: it is a national repository for all of the HSS.
