The Physical - Mechanical Properties of
Top Dara Marbles of Parwan Province
Research Assistant Eng. Sayed Reza Ehsani
Abstract
This research has been don on the physical-
mechanical properties of Top Dara marbles of Parwan
province. Various field, laboratory and library methods of
studies have been used to conduct this research. The
physical-mechanical tests results shows the average
compressive strength of the marble 83.86 MPa, The point
load strength 3.13 MPa, Slake durability index 99.30 %,
Bulk specific gravity (Oven dry) and Bulk Specific gravity
(SSD) 2.77, Apparent specific gravity 2.78, Bulk density
2.768 gr/cm3, Water absorption 0.19 %, Los angelis
abrasion 36.79 %, and Impact value 9.86 %. After
comparison of the physical-mechanical tests results of
the marble with the typical tables it become obvious that
the studied marble have high quality physical-mechanical
properties. Due to these properties, in addition to the
decorative parts of buildings, these marbles can also be
used in areas that are exposed to medium to high
pressure and impact. The results of various methods with
119
regarding of geographical location of the marble to Kabul
and neighboring cities, roads leading to the marble
deposit and the amount of the deposit of the marble all
suggesting the economic importance of the marble.
