The leaves are evergreen, twisted. Hairy in youth, then
naked. The leaf blades are dark green on the top with a clear
network of light yellow veins and shiny, underneath lighter,
matte.
The leaves turn red at lower temperatures, are leathery and
double-faced (heterophilia).
Set on sterile shoots, 3-5 lobes (triangular flaps), heart-
shaped at the base, blunt at the top, 4 to 10 cm long and
wide (small in many varieties). The leaves of the lower
shoots are usually more strongly indented. Leaves growing
on flowering shoots are ovate or ovoid-lanceolate, entire
edges, pointed, strongly shiny.
The first leaves of ivy sprouted from the seed are similar.
Under the inflorescences, the leaves are narrow, lanceolate.
Petiole 3-7 (11) cm long, usually brown or reddish brown on
top. The leaf life is 3 years.
Ivy leaves are a good example of a mosaic leaf, i.e. the
arrangement of leaves so that they do not obscure each
other.
