The results of the present study, it could be stated that Erenkoy Turkish Cypriot Fighters are more likely to have a chronic PTSD, with Delayed onset, than Turkish Cypriot Fighters who served in other regions of Cyprus within period of war. Factors found to be trigger PTSD in scope of the present study are: lack of social support during the war and post war period, alcohol use, being adolescent during the war, presence of psychological disorders in pre-war period. Being not prepared mentally, less of military education, and military skills.

High levels of fatigue that interfere with daily life activities are common in the general population with prevalence estimates ranging from 5% to 20%. Fatigue is a multidimensional construct with mental and physical aspects. Fatigue-related disorders (e.g., chronic fatigue syndrome) are often associated with elevated levels of psychological distress. Evidence suggests a bidirectional association ... [Show full abstract] between fatigue and stress. Fatigue and related constructs such as exhaustion can result from prolonged stressful demands. Biological correlates of fatigue include dysregulation of the autonomic, neurohormonal, and/or immune systems, but no specific biomarkers of fatigue exist. Stress-related psychological disorders (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder and depression) have fatigue as a core characteristic. Fatigue is also a common symptom in various medical diseases including cardiovascular disease and cancer. The relationship between stress and fatigue may be important in the development of multidisciplinary interventions targeted at improving health-related outcomes.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been subjected to several epidemiological studies during the last 10 years. Large differences in prevalence between different studies can only partly be explained by differences in methodology, impact of the trauma and populations. In general populations a lifetime prevalence of PTSD of between 1% and 9% has been found. In unselected traumatized populations 20-45% will develop PTSD after exposure to significant traumas. Among soldiers who have participated in battles of war a PTSD prevalence of 15-20% has been found. After exposure to lesser traumas and among well-trained corps 5-10% develop PTSD. Over long periods the point prevalence of PTSD in a given traumatized population diminishes. Predictive factors related to PTSD are complex.

Numerous young men fought for Biafra during the Nigeria-Biafra War (1967-1970) but there is little research on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms among these veterans. Using a sample of 46 veterans, the current study investigated the influence of social support on PTSD symptoms among disabled and non-disabled Biafran veterans. It was also hypothesized that veterans high in social support would differ significantly from veterans low in social support in self-report of PTSD symptoms. Participants completed two measures, namely, the Nigerian adaptation of Social Support Questionnaire and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist - Military Version (PCL-M). Data was analyzed using t-test. Results showed that disabled veterans reported higher levels of PTSD symptoms and lower levels of social support than non-disabled veterans. It was also found that veterans high in social support reported significantly lower levels of PTSD symptoms than veterans low in social support. Suggestions were made on the need for government, philanthropists and organizations/agencies to provide more support services to the Biafran veterans.
