(Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae). Calodema Supplementary Paper No. 14: 1-3.
Abstract: In this paper, two species from the family Hydrophilidae are described from Suriname, Helobata
soesilae sp. nov. and Helobata aschnakiranae sp. nov.
Introduction
The genus Helobata Bergroth, 1888 forms a small group with 9 species: Helobata
bitriangulata Garcia, 2000, from Venezuela, H. confusa Fernandez & Bachmann, 1987, from
Paraguay, H. corumbaensis Fernandez & Bachmann, 1987, from Brazil, H. cossyphoides

2000, from Venezuela, H. perpunctata Fernandez & Bachmann, 1987, from Argentina, H.
quatipuru Fernandez & Bachmann, 1987, from Brazil and H. striata (Brulle, 1841) from
North and South America.
In this paper, the first Helobata Bergroth species are described from Suriname, Helobata
soesilae sp. nov. and Helobata aschnakiranae sp.nov. Holotypes are deposited in the insect
collection of the University of Suriname, Department of Entomology, Paramaribo. Suriname.
