Few studies have examined the association between carbonated beverages and renal diseases. The experimental rats were divided into three groups, each with 10 individuals and the treatments were continued for 7 weeks as the following: Group 1: Control. The rats were given standard rat chow and tap water ad libitum. Group 2: Pepsi. The rats were given standard rat chow and Pepsi ad libitum. Group 2: Coca cola. The rats were given standard rat chow and coca cola ad libitum. A significance reduction in serum Na + was noted after 7 weeks of Pepsi and coca cola. Urine Na + was also decreased in both Pepsi and coca cola compared to the control group. However coca cola did not change serum K + ,Pepsi caused a significance rise. Pepsi and coca cola administration significantly raised serum Ca ++ , whereas urine Ca ++ did not change by coca cola, but Pepsi administration caused a significance rise in urine Ca ++. Urine volume and urine flow were significantly elevated by both Pepsi and coca cola administration. There were no statistical changes in Na + and K + excretion rates among the studied groups, while Ca ++ excretion rate was significantly increased by Pepsi and coca cola administration. Interestingly coca cola caused a much more significant rise in liver weight compared to the Pepsi group , they also caused a significant increase in malonaldehyde (MDA), whereas teeth weight was statistically reduced in both Pepsi and coca cola groups. Conclusions: The results concluded that over dose intake of Pepsi and coca cola are associated with oxidative stress, hypercalcemia , hepatomegaly, and teeth density loss, therefore further researches are needed to confirm these findings.
