... The dried material was rehydrated prior to analysis. The original publications of related species were analyzed (Hoehne 1910;Salazar and Silva 1993), as well as relevant publications dealing with the genus in Brazil and other South American countries (e.g., Hoehne 1942;Schweinfurt 1960;Pabst and Dungs 1975;Pabst 1978;Salazar 1992 Herbs epiphytic, caespitose, ca. 20 cm tall. ...

Mormodes matogrossensis, a new epiphytic orchid species is described and illustrated from the Floresta Estacional Sempre Verde along the Teles Pires River in southern Brazilian Amazon. This species belongs to M. sect. Mormodes and is similar to M. vinacea and M. paraënsis but differs by the lip lanceolate-trullate with basal lateral lobes, which are rounded and inconspicuously obtuse. We provided description, taxonomic and ecological comments, state of conservation, geographic distribution map, illustrations of the new species.
... The first orchid inventory from the Carajás National Forest was published by Silveira et al. (1995). This montane range hosts a large number of endemic taxa (Secco & Mesquita 1983, Silva 1991, Silva et al. 1996, Cabral et al. 2012, and several new orchid species were discovered from this area (Castro & Campacci 1993, Salazar & Silva 1993, Menezes & Tadayesky 1997. ...

A new species of Uleiorchis from Serra dos Carajás National Forest, Pará, Brazil, is described. This is the fourth species of this mycoheterotrophic genus. The species is illustrated, its affinities with related species are discussed, and a key to the species of the genus is presented. The new species differs from U. ulei, U. pratënsis and U. liesneri by the extremely elongated pedicel, the ligulate lip with a distal round dilatation, and by the elliptic, smooth stigmatic zone.

A total of 378 species of 99 genera were registered, some of these species are new to science while and others are new records for the Brazilian flora.
