Tendency of Support Seeking and Psychological Outcomes in a Dating Relationship: Roles of Relationsh...

Interdependence model of health has noted support seeking as an explanation for health benefits of close relationships. Yet, cross-cultural studies have well documented a lower tendency of seeking support in close relationship among Asians than among Americans. Based on three-factor model of relationship qualities, the present research examined how indicators of relationship quality would be associated with psychological outcomes and how such associations would be mediated by the tendency of support seeking in a heterosexual dating relationship among college students from Mainland China (Study 1), and Hong Kong and the United States (Study 2). Study 1 found that relationship depth was associated with the willingness of support seeking and life satisfaction through the tendency of support seeking among Mainland Chinese. Study 2 showed that relationship satisfaction had stronger associations with the likelihood of support seeking among Hong Kong Chinese than among Americans, but perceived support and conflict had stronger associations with support seeking among Americans than among Hong Kong Chinese. Findings contribute to the understanding of social support transaction processes in dating relationships by uncovering culturally distinctive interpersonal antecedents of support seeking.

Drying and conditioning of direct-harvested timothy seed. Part 1. Drying. J

An experiment is described in which S48 timothy seed, direct harvested at 3 stages of ripeness, was dried in layers 6 in. deep, at air temperatures from 75–135° F, immediately after harvest and after periods of from 1 to 3 days conditioning with cold air. Germination results for non-conditioned seed showed good agreement with those obtained in the previous year. The quality of seed hulled during ... [Show full abstract] threshing was inferior to that remaining unhulled after threshing, but the latter was more susceptible to high air temperature during drying. The relationship of the seed obtained in this experiment to commercial seed is discussed and a scheme for the practical application of the results will be presented in a subsequent paper.

The study reported in this paper examined the relationship between 5 recruiting sources (college placement offices, newspaper advertisements, employee referrals, direct applicants, and job fairs) and several important but neglected pre-hire outcomes (e.g., percentage of qualified applicants generated, percentage of applicants who were hired). Unexpectedly, recruiting sources were not related to the measures of applicant quality used in this study.
