Abstract and Figures

Two new species of Endophragmiella are described and illustrated. Endophragmiella bicolorata is characterized by (1–)2(–3)-septate conidia with a dome-shaped hyaline to subhyaline apical cell and brown basal and middle cells, a pigmentation pattern not previously described for species of this genus. Endophragmiella cantabrica is distinguished from species with 1-septate conidia by oblong, ellipsoidal, or sometimes ovoid conidia comprising two equal and uniformly pale brown cells.

... Ren & al. (2011) reported a new collection (HSAUPH 8346) of E. resinae from China (on dead branches of an unidentified plant). Our collection (BBH 49147) shares similar morphological features with the type and the other representative specimens commonly found in terrestrial habitats on dead plant material (Kirk 1981a, Ren & al. 2011 (Ellis 1976, Hughes 1979, Holubová-Jechová 1986, Révay 1987, Chen & al. 2008, Rifai 2008, Leão-Ferreira & Gusmão 2010, Hernández-Restrepo & al. 2013). It has been mentioned that E. resinae clearly differs from other related species by the size of the apical cell, which is typically 1.5-3 times longer than the basal cell (Ren & al. 2011). ...
... The secondary conidiophores formed laterally from the basal cell of the primary conidium, with two (or a few more) annellidic proliferations. (19-26.5 × 7.5-13 μm;Hernández-Restrepo & al. 2013), E. bohaniensis (18-33 × 8.5-12.5 μm;Sharma 1985), E. fallacia (16-30 × 9-13 μm;Kirk 1981b), and E. oblonga (19-28 × 9.5-11.5 μm; Matsushima 1975, Hughes 1979. ...

Seven Endophragmiella taxa were found in Thailand, from freshwater and terrestrial habitats in various locations. Five of them are proposed as new species: E. acutispora , E. filiformis , E. obpyriformis , E. sporoprolifera , and E. tunicata . Endophragmiella acutispora is characterized by fusiform to obclavate, 2–5-septate conidia; E. filiformis by obclavate, appendiculate, 3–5-septate conidia; E. obpyriformis by its obovoid or obpyriform, bicolored conidia; E. sporoprolifera by obclavate and Y-shaped, appendiculate, 5–6-septate conidia; and E. tunicata by cylindrical or oblong, tunicate, 2-septate conidia. Two other species, E. multiramosa and E. resinae, are new records for the Thailand mycota. Detailed descriptions, illustrations, and taxonomic keys comparing the new species with morphologically similar species are provided.

Four new species— Endophragmiella chinensis , E. guangdongensis , E. lushanensis , and E. obovoidea —collected on dead branches of unidentified plants in southern China, are described, illustrated, and compared with closely related species. From the same habitat, three other species, E. cantabrica , E. ellisii , and E. uniseptata are recorded from China for the first time.

The new species Corynespora thorii growing on Lecanora sp., Endophragmiella stordeuriana on Cladonia spp. and Sporidesmiella physconiicola on Physconia distorta are described, illustrated and discussed. Corynespora laevistipitata, hitherto known only from Europe and North America, is first reported on species of Lecanora from Asia, illustrated and briefly described. Endophragmiella franconica is first reported from Belarus.

Four Endophragmiella species are described and illustrated: E. nanlingensis occurring on dead branches of Melicope triphylla is proposed as new, and E. pulchra, E. rostrata, and E. resinae found on dead branches of unidentified plants are recorded for the first time from China. The specimens are deposited in Herbarium of Shandong Agricultural University, Plant Pathology (HSAUP) and Mycological Herbarium, Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (HMAS).

An account of the fungi of Arran, Gigha and Kintyre is presented. In addition to records derived from recent field work, all published, unpublished and herbarium records are included in an annotated list enumerating 946 taxa. A brief account of the history of mycology in the area is presented. This area, on the west coast of Scotland, is in many ways comparable to Mull, for which a comprehensive account of the fungi was published in 1978. A preliminary comparison of the species complement of these areas is, therefore, presented. Following the list are taxonomic accounts ofAscomycetes and Deuteromycetes which include new taxa and new or interesting British records. Belemnospora verruculosa P. M. Kirk, Bryoscyphus Spooner, Cistella lagenipilus Spooner, Dictyosporium foliicola P. M. Kirk, Endophragmiella arranensis P. M. Kirk, Fusichalara clavatispora P. M. Kirk, Helicoma irregulare P. M. Kirk, Phaeoscypha Spooner, Pterygosporopsis rhododendri P. M. Kirk, Sydowiella juncina Spooner are described as new. The new combinations Bisporella scolochloae (de Not.) Spooner, Bryoscyphus conocephali (Boyd) Spooner,B. dicrani (Ade & Höhnel) Spooner, B. marchantiae (Berk.) Spooner, B. turbinatus (Fuckel) Spooner, Calycellina juniperina (K. & L. Holm) Spooner, Cephalotrichum microsporum (Sacc.) P. M. Kirk, Chalara africana (B. Sutton & Piroz.) P. M. Kirk, C. aspera (Piroz. & Hodges) P. M. Kirk, C. bulbosa (B. Sutton & Piroz.) P. M. Kirk, C. laevis (B. Sutton & Hodges) P. M. Kirk, C. ramosa (Nag Raj & Kendrick) P. M. Kirk, Laetinaevia marina (Boyd) Spooner, Lanzia vacini (Velen.) Spooner, and Phaeoscypha cladii (Nag Raj & Kendrick) Spooner are proposed.

Two new species, Endophragmiella clausenae from dead branches of Clausena lansium and E. pentaphylacis from dead branches of Pentaphylax euryoides, are described and illustrated. Endophragmiella corticola is a new record for China. These three species were collected from tropical and subtropical forests in southern China.
Article
The generic name Endophragmia Duvernoy et Maire is considered untenable for more than 30 species that have been included in it. In many of these species conidia secede rhexolytically. and percurrent proliferations arise from the penultimate cell of the conidiophore and of the successive proliferations: most of these particular species are transferred to Endophragmiella Sutton. Two species described in Endophragmiella are excluded from this genus and two new species described. Several species of “Endophragmia” are included in or transferred to Sporidesmium, Phragmocephala, Acremoniula, Paradendryphiopsis, and a new genus Melanocephala. Brief accounts are presented on other fonn genera with Endophragmiella-like proliferations after rhexolytic conidium secession, namely Teratosperma, Arachnophora, Acrophragmis, Chaetendophragmia, and Uberispora. Brief notes are also given on genera which, for various reasons, are involved in the redispositions of species assigned to Endophragmia, namely Domingoella, Hadrosporium, Brachysporiella (syn. Edmundmasonia). Monotosporella, Acrodictys, Phragmospathula, and Acrogenospora.
