Retroprospecciones intertextuales: A propósito de Pierre Bayard y el plagio por anticipado

Abstract

Este artículo expone la noción de plagio por anticipado desarrollada por el crítico francés Pierre Bayard, así como sus precedentes, y la sitúa en el marco de una teoría narrativa de la experiencia humana y una teoría hermenéutica de la lectura entendida a través de los fenómenos de la retroprospección y la retroacción. This paper expounds the notion of plagiarism by anticipation, put forward by the French critic Pierre Bayard, as well as its precedents, and situates it within the framework of a narrative theory of human experience and a hermeneutic theory of reading based on the phenomena of prospective hindsight and retroaction.

El arte ha elaborado un discurso metalingüístico y autorreferencial desde el comienzo de la actividad humana. En el cine, títulos como Sunset Boulevard o Cinema Paradiso han mostrado el interés en la plasmación de la praxis cinematográfica a través del séptimo arte, siendo sin embargo menos frecuente la realización de un ejercicio de transtextualidad, autorreferencialidad y metaficción bajo un mismo título. Éste es el caso de The Unmaking of, galardonada cinta de Juan Manuel Chumilla Carbajosa que encierra un paso más en la metaficción, al tratarse de un ejercicio metalingüístico dentro de un falso documental, caso único en la cinematografía española que merece un estudio en profundidad.

The universe of Art has been prone to resort to transtextuality and metalanguage since the beginning of the human activity. Films like Sunset Boulevard or Cinema Paradiso have shown the interest in the expression of the cinematographic praxis through its own tools. However, it is not frequent to find self-referential and transtextual language in the field of fake documentary; this is the case of The Unmaking of, an awarded movie made by Juan Manuel Chumilla Carbajosa which represents a step forward in metafiction since it is a self-referential film into the frame of a fake. A metalinguistic movie, unique in the Spanish cinematography, that deserves to be studied in depth.

The first edition of The Rhetoric of Fiction transformed the criticism of fiction and soon became a classic in the field. One of the most widely used texts in fiction courses, it is a standard reference point in advanced discussions of how fictional form works, how authors make novels accessible, and how readers recreate texts, and its concepts and terms—such as "the implied author," "the postulated reader," and "the unreliable narrator"—have become part of the standard critical lexicon. For this new edition, Wayne C. Booth has written an extensive Afterword in which he clarifies misunderstandings, corrects what he now views as errors, and sets forth his own recent thinking about the rhetoric of fiction. The other new feature is a Supplementary Bibliography, prepared by James Phelan in consultation with the author, which lists the important critical works of the past twenty years—two decades that Booth describes as "the richest in the history of the subject."
