... The genus, and, in the Neotropics, especially the species centered around Tectaria incisa, are in need of detailed taxonomic study; not all Bolivian specimens can at present be reliably placed in the recognized species. In a series of papers on Tectaria in the Neotropics, primarily those occurring from areas in Costa rica to Peru, rojas-Alvarado has described nine new species, a new variety, as well as a new interspecific hybrid (involving T. lizarzaburui) in the genus (rojas-Alvarado 2001, 2004, 2006a, 2006b, rojas-Alvarado & Sanín 2014, and also cited new distributional records. In the most recent of these papers, the authors presented a key to the 28 species occurring in the area from Costa rica to Colombia. ...

We provide a synopsis to the family Tectariaceae in Bolivia, including 17 species in four genera. The main genus, Tectaria, has 12 species. Despite being one of the most common and conspicuous fern genera in humid lowland forests, it remains challenging, and further study will likely result in taxonomic changes for Bolivia.

For over two decades no attempt has been made to update the checklist of Ferns and Lycophytes (hereafter only referred to as pteridophytes) of Honduras. In 1996 Nelson-Sutherland and co-workers published the first fully annotated checklist for the country, which included 651 named species (680 taxa including varieties and hybrids). However, phylogenetic relationships have changed substantially since then. There have also been many taxonomic revisions for several groups and a considerable number of new records have since been published. Our work aimed to provide a comprehensive updated and fully annotated checklist of Honduran ferns. We undertook a comprehensive literature review of new records for Honduras and verified each individual record for the country. We followed PPGI for our taxonomic species revisions. We excluded a total of 81 taxa from the original 1996 checklist due to synonymy or lack of evidence of the species occurrence in Honduras. A total of 114 new species records were added, including four previously unpublished records. Our new updated checklist includes 713 taxa (including 8 varieties and 7 hybrids) which represents a 19% increase to the number of pteridophytes known from Honduras. Our work provides updated information regarding the pteridophytes diversity of Honduras. These data provide a crucial first step towards the first Honduran pteridophytes flora.

A new fern species, Tectaria moranii (sect. Tectaria; Tectariaceae), is described from central Costa Rica. Tectaria moranii is most similar to T. vivipara in having rachis bulbils, but the two are distinguishable by the habit of rhizome, shape of lamina, petiole and rachis color, proliferability of rachis bulbils, number of pairs of pinnae per lamina, pinna width, and sorus distribution. Tectaria moranii is assigned LC-Least Concern category following the IUCN guidelines.

The following species of Tectariaceae (Filicales) from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panamá, Colombia and Perú are described as new: Ctenitis sotoana A. Rojas, Megalastrum ctenitoides A. Rojas, Tectaria darienensis A. Rojas, T. faberiana A. Rojas, T. longipinnata A. Rojas, T. murilloana A. Rojas, T. pascoensis A. Rojas and T. subdimorpha A. Rojas.
