Basingon the biometricsof24 individualsfromcollections of the InstituteofZoology,Chinese Academyof Scienceswe foundthat femalesof Lanius sphenocercus were in generalbiggerin size(wing, tail) and heavierthan the males,as is commonin birdsofprey. Furthermore, it appearsthatmorphological measurements(wing, tail, bill, tarsus lengthand weight)are not as importantfor distinguishingbetween the two races as the colourvariationin the amountof white in the superciliarystripesand foreheadbase. Distributionaldata coincide with the presentknowledgegiven in literature.
