Knowledge of capacity and use of health information technology is essential in developing a secure interoperable statewide electronic health network. The purpose of this research was to conduct a comprehensive state-wide assessment of multiple healthcare providers and translate the data through geospatial mapping into a model to guide the development of RHIOs and HIEs. This research reflects the most comprehensive e-Health adoption survey to date for state healthcare decision makers in the extant literature.

Research Partnerships with Healthcare Providers in Rural Community Health Centers Needs and Challeng...

Kentucky has among the highest rates of diabetes and obesity in the United States. The Kentucky Diabetes and Obesity Collaborative (KDOC) was designed to develop a novel research infrastructure that can be used by researchers focusing on obesity and diabetes among patients cared for by Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) serving rural Kentucky. Focus groups were carried out to develop an ... [Show full abstract] understanding of the needs and interests of FQHC practitioners and staff regarding participation in KDOC. Focus groups were conducted with 6 FQHCs and included a total of 41 individuals including health care providers, administrative staff and clinical staff. The discussions ranged in time from 30 to 70 minutes and averaged 45 minutes. Analysis of the transcripts of the focus groups revealed 4 themes: 1) contextual factors, 2) infrastructure, 3) interpersonal relationships, and 4) clinical features. The participants also noted four requirements that should be met for a research project to be successful in rural primary care settings: 1) there must be a shared understanding of health priorities of rural communities between the researcher and the practices/providers; 2) the proposed research must be relevant to clinics and their communities; 3) research and recommendations for evidence-based interventions need to reflect the day-to-day challenges of rural primary care providers; and 4) there needs to be an understanding of community norms and resources. Although research-clinic partnerships were viewed favourably overall, challenges in data integration to support both research and clinical outcomes were identified.

The aims of the Global Alliance are to accelerate the world-wide effort to responsibly aggregate, analyse and share large amounts of genomic and clinical information to advance the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment for cancer, inherited diseases, infectious diseases, and drug responses. [Show full abstract] consists of over 200 of the world's leading biomedical research institutions, healthcare providers, information technology and life science companies, funders of research, and disease and patient advocacy organizations. As part of four Working Groups (Clinical, Regulatory and Ethics, Data, and Security), Alliance Members have already developed products such as: • A Framework for Responsible Sharing of Genomic and Health-Related Data, containing foundational governance principles and guidelines for research. This Framework is guided by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the right of scientific freedom of all citizens to share in the benefits of scientific progress and for scientists to be recognised for their contributions. • A GA4GH Genomics API (published at www.ga4gh.org) that allows researchers to exchange genomic information, including sequence reads and reference variation, across organisations and platforms. The Genomics API comes with a compliance test and reference implementation, to facilitate adoption and ensure interoperability. The Global Alliance is also supporting key data sharing projects being undertaken by Alliance Members. These projects will demonstrate value and promote real-world learning: • An international Matchmaker Exchange, that will facilitate researchers and clinicians finding other patients with similar rare phenotypic and genotypic profiles through a connected system of 'Matchmakers'. • The Global BRCA Challenge is being driven by leaders in the field internationally with the aim of sharing and pooling genotype and phenotype data. This initiative has the potential to dramatically increase our ability to estimate BRCA1 and BRCA2-related cancer risks.

Educational modules are developed in ... [Show full abstract] response to a perceived need to improve interprofessional collaboration for the benefit of patientcare. Up until 2005 no explicit module on interprofessional collaboration existed in the education programs of the Antwerp University Association (AUHA). During a decade the ‘Interprofessional Collaboration In Healthcare (IPCIHC) – module’ is organised and evaluated by its participants. Methods One group, post-test design was used to gather data from the participating students using a structured questionnaire. Data was collected between March 2005 and March 2014 from participating final year students in healthcare educational programs. Results 3568 (84 % overall response) students evaluated the IPCIHC module from 2005 up to 2014. Over 80 % of the participants were convinced the IPCIHC increased their knowledge and changed their understanding that it will impact their future professional relationships, and felt a greater understanding about problem-solving in healthcare teams. Even though the results indicate that the goals of the IPCIHC module were achieved, less than 60 % of the participants experienced a change in attitude towards other professional groups. Conclusions Despite the positive outcomes from the participants, the challenge still remains to keep on educating future healthcare providers in interprofessional collaboration in order to achieve an increase in interprofessional behaviour towards other professional groups. Research is needed to investigate the effectiveness of undergraduate programs on the quality and safety of patientcare in practice.

[Show full abstract] of healthcare to this group. Setting A purposeful sample of 10 community pharmacists, located in the Loddon Mallee Region, north central rural Victoria, Australia. Method A descriptive qualitative design was adopted in this study. Data collection was via face-to-face, one-to-one, semi-structured interviews. The data were analysed thematically via a three-stage coding process: open, axial and selective coding. Key findings The study highlighted factors such as time resources; education, training, and experience in the field of intellectual disabilities; inadequate interprofessional communication; and the client's communication abilities and capacity to understand to be the most significant barriers to the provision of healthcare to people with intellectual disabilities, for this sample of community pharmacists. Suggested solutions to these barriers included emphasising the need for education and training, and increased staff recruitment. Community pharmacists emphasised the need for adequate collaboration with other health professionals, and the importance of communication with people with intellectual disabilities and their carers. Conclusion The research study highlighted a significant number of barriers perceived by the sample of community pharmacists, and proposed solutions to overcome these barriers in order to better assist community pharmacists in providing healthcare to people with intellectual disabilities.

The literature points out that one of the most appropriate methodologies for assessing the efficiency of healthcare providers is Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Implementing two different models, i.e., normal DEA and system differentiated DEA, the results indicate that in both cases the proportion of the efficient hospitals is more than double in favor of the hospitals that use e-health systems.

A total of 265 responses were gathered from patients at a large international hospital. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (EQM). The results revealed resistance to change as an inhibitor to intentions to use the PPS. This study demonstrated the importance of integrating resistance to change with the technology use research, especially in healthcare settings. Moreover, this study is considered to be among the few studies in IS to incorporate patients' perspectives regarding new healthcare technology.

We describe the three key steps of the model namely: (1) Strength assessment, (2) Feedback session, (3) Developing strengths to achieve goals. The feedback session is involved in every step of the model. Strength assessment involves assessment of family strengths by healthcare providers. Developing strengths to achieve goals involves focusing on the identified strengths and areas of growth so that specific goals can be achieved.

The results suggest there is an optimal size for Turkish hospitals. Also, this study shows that hospitals in certain regions of Turkey are more efficient than other regions. Determining the characteristics of efficient hospitals is important if Turkey is to properly allocate scarce healthcare funding.
