... However, the diversity of Leucoagaricus species in China is still poorly understood. To date, only 30 species of Leucoagaricus have been reported from China, of which 16 were described as new to science (Ge 2010;Liang et al. 2010;Zhou et al. 2010;Yuan & Liang 2014;Yu et al. 2016;Ge et al. 2017;Yang 2017;Yang et al. 2019;Ma et al. 2022;Guo et al. 2023). Our study area is in the eastern region of Anhui Province which has high fungal diversity while they are rarely reported. ...
... Relevant sequence data of phylogenetic analyses were downloaded from GenBank following recent publications (Vellinga 2004;Ge 2010;Liang et al. 2010;Yuan et al. 2014;Ge et al. 2015;Ma et al. 2022), including sequences of representative taxa in other Leucoagaricus sections, as well as sequences from representatives of Leucocoprinus Pat. and Micropsalliota Höhn. The newly acquired sequences from Leucoagaricus specimens from Anhui Province, China, were evaluated for quality using BioEdit and Blast search results according to Nilsson et al. (2012). ...

Leucoagaricus subtropicus sp. nov., a new species of lepiotaceous fungi, is described from Anhui Province, China. Phylogenetic analyses based on combined sequence data from ITS and LSU indicated that it forms clusters within the Leucoagaricus. Moreover, morpho-anatomical analyses provided further confirmation of its distinctiveness. This novel taxon is mainly recognized by its medium-size, brownish-red fibrous scales in pileus with darker in the middle, greyish red to blood-red when bruised, brownish-orange droplets on base stipe, polymorphic cheilocystidia. The observed morphological and molecular phylogenetic differences clearly distinguish our species from all previously known species of Leucoagaricus, confirming its novelty. The new species is described, illustrated, and compared to species with similar characteristics.
... This taxon is distinguished from all other species by the cream pileus which becomes entirely purple on drying, the absence of cheilocystidia, and the amygdaliform, ellipsoidal to oblong basidiospores. An exhaustive search of the literature, including monographs and papers (Ge 2010;Ge et al. 2015;Ge et al. 2019;Liang et al. 2010;Ma et al. 2022;Yang 2007;Yang & Ge 2017;Yu et al. 2016;Yuan et al. 2014), confirmed the unique nature of this species. In addition, molecular phylogenetic analyses based on two ribosomal DNA markers (ITS and LSU) supported the uniqueness of this taxon. ...

A new species, Leucoagaricus purpurascens, collected from a subtropical region in China, is described based on morphological and molecular data. Leucoagaricus purpurascens is characterized by its small basidiomata with purple discolouration when dried, the pileus with distinct umbo, the amygdaliform, ellipsoidal to oblong basidiospores, and the absence of cheilocystidia. A detailed morphological description, line drawings, colour photographs, and a phylogenetic tree showing the phylogenetic placement of the new species are provided.
... Based on morphological and molecular data, in this study, we described six new species of Leucoagaricus from northeastern China, with three species in section Leucoagaricus, two in subgenus Sericeomyces and one within a clade not belonging to any currently recognized section. The taxonomy of Leucoagaricus has been a focus worldwide in recent years, with many new taxa described around the world [11,[19][20][21]37,39,40]. However, as shown in Figure 1, there are putative new species to be described that are represented by a single collection (e.g., HKAS 123028, HKAS 105542, HKAS 123030 and HKAS 116134). ...

Six new species, Leucoagaricus albosquamosus, Leucoagaricus atroviridis, Leucoagaricus aurantioruber, Leucoagaricus candidus, Leucoagaricus centricastaneus and Leucoagaricus virens, collected from northeastern China are described based on morphological characters and molecular evidence. Illustrations of fresh basidiomata and line drawings of key anatomical characters are provided. A phylogenetic tree inferred from internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and large subunit ribosomal RNA gene (LSU) sequences shows that three of the new taxa are nested within the section Leucoagaricus and two of the new taxa are in the subgenus Sericeomyces, whereas the other new taxus is clustered with Leucoagaricus viriditinctus and Leucoagaricus irinellus, forming a clade that does not fit in any known section.
... Leucoagaricus Locq. ex Singer (1948: 35) (Agaricaceae) includes more than 100 taxa in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres (Kumar & Manimohan 2009;Ge 2010;Liang et al. 2010;Vellinga 2010;Vellinga & Balsley 2010;Muñoz et al. 2012Muñoz et al. , 2014Kumari & Atri 2013;Malysheva et al. 2013;Ye et al. 2014;Ge et al. 2015;Qasim et al. 2015;Dovana et al. 2017;Hussain et al. 2018;Usman & Khalid 2018;Ullah et al. 2019). Distinguishing characteristics of the genus include: small to medium-sized basidiomata ranging in stature from slender to sturdy, fibrillose to squamulose pileus surface, non-striate pileus margin, free lamellae, white to cream or pink spore deposit, dextrinoid basidiospores, cheilocystidia, rarely pleurocystidia, and hyphae lacking clamp connections (Singer 1986;Vellinga 2001). ...

A novel species, Leucoagaricus fragilis, is described from the vicinity of the Cholistan desert, Punjab, Pakistan. The taxon is characterized by white, fragile basidiomata with a light brown, umbonate disk, a radially fibrillose pileus surface rarely splitting radially, pinkish brown lamellae at maturity, a white, bent stipe that stains yellowish upon handling, an inferior annulus, sub-globose to ellipsoid basidiospores, broadly clavate to abundantly sphaeropedunculate cheilocystidia, and cylindrical pileipellis hyphae intermixed with broader clavate elements with rounded ends. Morpho-anatomical and molecular phylogenetic analyses of nrITS and nrLSU datasets confirmed a new taxon in L. sect. Piloselli. A key to the known species of Leucoagaricus in Pakistan is also provided.

The genus Podaxis was first described from India by Linnaeus in 1771, but several revisions of the genus have left the taxonomy unclear. Forty-four Podaxis species names and nine intraspecific varieties are currently accepted, but most fungarium specimens are labelled Podaxis pistillaris . Recent molecular analyses based on barcoding genes suggest that the genus comprises several species, but their status is largely unresolved. Here we obtained basidiospores and photographs from 166 fungarium specimens from around the world and generated a phylogeny based on rDNA internal transcribed spacer ITS1, 5.8S and ITS2 (ITS), and a phylogenomic analysis of 3 839 BUSCO genes from low-coverage genomes for a subset of the specimens. Combining phylogenetics, phylogenomics, morphology, ecology, and geographical distribution, spanning 250 years of collections, we propose that the genus includes at least 16 unambiguous species. Based on 10 type specimens (holotype, paratype, and syntype), four recorded species were confirmed, P. carcinomalis , P. deflersii , P. emerici , and P. farlowii . Comparing phylogenetic analysis with described species, including morphology, ecology, and distribution, we resurrected P. termitophilus and designated neotypes, epitypes, or lectotypes for five previously described species, P. aegyptiacus , P. africana , P. beringamensis , P. calyptratus , and P. perraldieri . Lastly, based on phylogenies and morphology of type material, we synonymized three reported species, P. algericus , P. arabicus , and P. rugospora with P. pistillaris , and described five new species that we named P. desolatus , P. inyoensis , P. mareebaensis , P. namaquensis , and P. namibensis .

Based on some findings made over time in several localities of the Castelli Romani, province of Rome (Italy), the authors illustrate macro and microscopic variability of Leucoagaricus sublittoralis, a species not very widespread on the national territory. Relations with other species of subsection Rubrotincti are discussed. Phylogenetic analysis based on the nrITS marker allows a comparison with numerous new entities recently described for territories outside the Mediterranean area.

Leucocoprinus flavus, originally described from tropical Africa, is reported from Europe for the first time, based on northern Italian collections (Turin, Piedmont). The basidiomata have been collected in an urban park under Cedrus atlantica. A description of the European specimens as well as illustrations and drawings of the main micro-morphological features are provided. The features distinguishing L flavus from similar species are summarized and a key to the yellow European species in sect. Denudati is presented.

A new taxon of Leucoagaricus is proposed as L. amazonicus. The collection representing this species was collected in the lowlands of the Amazonas Department, Colombia, on a dump produced by ants belonging to Acromyrmex octospinosus. The very particular habitat, the small size and dark brown basidiomata that stain yellowish when bruised, the peronate inferior annulus, and the cheilocystidia which are relatively short, capitate and filled with dense brown contents are some of the features of this species.

Leucoagaricus crystallifer spec. nov. is described; this species was formerly known as L. serenus in the interpretation of Bon and other authors. Leucoagaricus serenus sensu Kuhner is neotypified, and the following new combinations are made: Leucoagaricus sericifer, and L. sericifer f. sericatellus.

Type collections of two beautiful pink and lilac agarics, viz. Lepiota roseolivida and L. decorata, are studied, and descriptions based on many fresh collections from California are given. Leucoagaricus marriagei is considered a synonym of L. roseolivida, based on morphology and ITS sequences, and Leucoagaricus idae-fragum is placed in synonymy with L. decorata. Based on morphology and molecular data, these species belong to the Leucoagaricus/ Leucocoprinus clade in the Agaricaceae. Morphologically, they are placed in Leucoagaricus sect. Piloselli. However, nomendatural changes are not made at this moment, as there are uncertainties over generic circumscriptions within the clade.

A rare species of Lepiota s.l. with yellow flesh that bruises bluish-green was collected several times from a site in north central Florida in 1997. It is described here as a new species, Leucoagaricus viridiflavoides, related to Lepiota viridiflava Fetch from Sri Lanka, Leucoagaricus "cyanotinctus" (TJB 7970) from Puerto Rico, and Leucocoprinus sulphurellus Pegler from the Lesser Antilles. Leucocoprinus sulphurellus is transferred to Leucoagaricus here, based on microscopic study.
