Hilsa is a highly prized food fish of our country. It accounts for 15-20% of the total fish landing of Hooghly estuary. Owing to its rich nutritional quality and taste, hilsa is a highly sought after fish. It is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids which plays a major role in providing pharmaceutical elements for physiological maintenance of body tissue. Omega-3 fatty acids reduce the risk of heart diseases, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, age-related dementia and childhood asthma.
