During the course of my studies, surveys were undertaken in different
localities of the North Western and Western Himalayas, i.e., in Himachal
Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand States in northern India, for
collection of Lymantriid moths. In all, 62 species, referable to 22 genera

spp.), Dasychira Hübner (4 spp.), Calliteara Butler (1 sp.), Euproctis Hübner
(12 spp.), Himala Moore (1 sp.), Imaus Moore (1 sp.), Lachana Moore (1 sp.),
Laelia Stephens (6 spp.), Leucoma Hübner (2 spp.), Lymantria Hübner (11 spp.),
Nygmia Hübner (2 spp.), Olene Hübner (3 spp.), Pantana Walker (1 sp.), Psalis
Hübner (1 sp.), Perina Walker (2 spp.), Sphrageidus Maes (2 spp.), Somena
Walker (1 sp.) and Varmina Moore (1 sp.) ] . These were identified with help of
relevant available literature (Hampson, 1893; Swinhoe, 1903, 1923; Collenette,
1930-1949; Holloway, 1999; Watson et. al., 1980; Zhao, 2003), and the
examination of different morphological features such as labial palpi, maxillary
palpi, antennae, wing venation and maculation, ornamentation of legs and
abdomen, etc. Under each species, its type locality, synonymy, distributional
range and wing expanse have been mentioned.
