Internet Of Things (IOT) Based Waste Management System

Abstract—In the present day scenario, many times the cleaning of garbage bins or dust bin which placed at public places in Chittagong city of
Bangladesh are not well maintained according to requirement. And so sometimes the garbage bin gets overflowed before cleaning. It creates
unhygienic condition for citizens and creates bad smell around the surroundings which leads in spreading deadly diseases & human illness. To
create green environment, in this paper, we focused on a Smart Waste Management System incorporate with internet of things (IOT). In this
proposed System, multiple dustbins in different location all over the city have been provided with a low cost embedded device which sends data to
internet cloud after reaching a certain threshold level of the Dust bin in order to perform the cleaning as early possible. Moreover, the device will
transmit the level along with the unique ID provided via SMS to the closest authorized cleaner. The total system is clearly visible with proper
authentication to the highest authority of waste management system. And also the system is able to notify the authority if any cleaner avoid the
SMS.
•The proposed system is the management of waste in proper way.
•To make a green city and to relief from the unhygienic condition,
this system is necessary.
•In this smart system, authority can monitor easily because of
GSM and IoT based.
•IoT makes this system intellectual and helpful to the government
of the country to make an immense promise of creating clean
city.
•To know the current state of garbage bin in our Chittagong
city.
•To relief from bad smell of dust bins.
•To make sure that the garbage bin don’t get overflow.
•To make the system in proper maintained.
Introduction
•The proposed system is efficient and time saving process .
•The implement costs for the automation is affordable.

within reasonable amount of time.
•Because of GSM based ,it will cover up with a long distance
•Gas sensor will be set into garbage bin to sense the gas which
may harm on citizen then send information to the authority
through cloud to take immediate action.

•Waste level is successfully determined.
•Perfectly transmit the information to the cloud.

•After reaching a certain level of the bins, GSM module
which is connected with raspberry pi sent SMS to the
authorized cleaner.
•Authority successfully confirmed the cleaning by the cloud.
Ultrasonic Sensor (interfaced with Raspberry pi) sense th e level of
waste in a dustbin.
Sensor send waste level information to raspberry pi and raspberry pi
send data to the server continuously.
When waste crossed a threshold level, GSM module which is
connected with raspberry pi will send SMS to the nearest au thorized
cleaner
If any authorized cleaner failed to clean it, the authority will take
necessary steps

Authority gets notification from the cloud which needs to be
