Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of using Indigofera leaves meal (IM) and lemuru (Sardinella longiceps) fish oil (F) on performance and egg quality and to evaluate the effectiveness of substitution of soybean meal protein with IM protein in the duck’s diet. One hundred and eighty laying duks of 22 weeks old were randomly divided into 6 experimental diets with 3 replications and analyzed as 3x2 factorial completely randomized design of IM (0%, 5.5%, 11%) and F (0%,2%). Parameters observed were egg production, feed conversion ratio, feed intake, egg weight, cholesterol, vitamin A, Omega 3 and MDA. The use 11% IM and 2% F resulted the highest eggs production, reduced cholesterol in yolk and MDA value of egg, and increased the content of vitamin A. Usage 2% F without IM produced the best balance of omega 6 and omega 3 ( 4.97) and significantly reduced (P<0.05) MDA value of serum. It was concluded that usage 2% of lemuru fish oil and 11 % of indigofera could replace soybean meal protein as much as 50% without reducing the performance of laying ducks, reducing cholesterol in yolk, increasing vitamin A and omega3 fatty acid content of the eggs.
