Introduction
I am interested in digital and embedded design, implementation, programming and validation: ASIC, FPGA, HDL, Verification, Synthesis, Implementation, Constraints, Place and Route, Testing, Measurements, C/C++, Python, Matlab, Assembly, data structures, algorithms, RTOS, PCB. As an ambitious research assistant at Transilvania University of Brasov since 2015, my work was accomplished in the context of the "Experimentul ATLAS de la LHC" (The ATLAS Experiment from LHC) national research project.

In the upgrade process of the ATLAS detector, the innermost stations of the endcaps (Small Wheels) will be replaced. The New Small Wheel will have two chamber technologies, small-strip Thin Gap Chambers and Micromegas, each providing triggering and precision track measurement. Custom front-end Application Specific Integrated Circuits will be used t...

The 8b/10b IBM encoding scheme is used in a plethora of communication technologies, including USB, Gigabit Ethernet, and Serial ATA. We propose two primitive-based structural designs of an 8b/10b encoder and two of an 8b/10b decoder, all targeted at modern AMD FPGA architectures. Our aim is to reduce the amount of resources used for the implementat...

The increase in luminosity, and consequent higher backgrounds, of the LHC upgrades require improved rejection of fake tracks in the forward region of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer. The New Small Wheel upgrade of the Muon Spectrometer aims to reduce the large background of fake triggers from track segments that don't originate from the interaction poi...

This chapter summarizes the conclusions from all the other chapters while emphasizing the author’s contributions and achievements related to the thesis subject.
Chapter
The work presented in this thesis relates to the ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC Apparatus) Experiment [1] at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) [2] particle accelerator, operated by CERN (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, now the European Organization for Nuclear Research), situated near Geneva, Switzerland. CERN has in its repertory many important...

A bstract Cross-sections of associated production of a Higgs boson decaying into bottomquark pairs and an electroweak gauge boson, W or Z , decaying into leptons are measured as a function of the gauge boson transverse momentum. The measurements are performed in kinematic fiducial volumes defined in the ‘simplified template cross-section’ framework...
