Agent-based coordination for the sensor web

This paper addresses the problem of coordination within the Sensor Web, where the Sensor Web is defined as an amorphous network of spatially distributed nodes that sense various phenomena in the environment, that are battery powered, and that communicate and coordinate wirelessly. The approach described advocates the use of a multi-agent system, and specifically the use of multi-agent distributed ... [Show full abstract] constraint optimisation algorithms. Developing software for low powered sensing devices introduces several problems to be addressed; the most obvious being the limited computational resources available. In this paper we discuss an implementation of ADOPT, a pre-existing algorithm for distributed constraint optimisation, and describe how it has been integrated with a reflective agent platform developed for resource constrained devices, namely Agent Factory Micro Edition (AFME). The usefulness of this work is illustrated through the canonical multi-agent coordination problem, namely graph colouring.

The present edition is broad in scope and has approached the problem of use as a text in interesting but by now well-tried methods: it summarizes the main point of the section as a "message" and provides problems at the end of the chapter. For example, the discussion of dosage compensation in mammals is incomplete. There is a lengthy description of Liane Russell's experiments, but only casual comment on Mary Lyon's experiments. This is deplorable; the Lyon experiments clarified the interpretation of events, and her name is associated with the lyonization of the X chromosome. Further, no mention is made

Burmannia cryptopetala Makino (Burmanniaceae), a Newly Recorded Plant in Taiwan

Burmannia comprises ca. 63 species and is one of the largest genera of the Burmanniaceae. Three species were recorded in the 2nd edition of Flora of Taiwan. In the course of our botanical inventory, Burmannia cryptopetala Makino was found in the northern and northeastern Taiwan, representing a new record species on this island. Burmannia cryptopetala is easily distinguished from other congeners ... [Show full abstract] by having perianth-tube 3-winged, and inner perianth-lobes lacking or inconspicuous.
