Introduction
"Passionate about Structural Design and preventing them from wind hazards and earthquakes." I am a second-year PhD student in Engineering Mechanics at Iowa State University. My research focuses on the wind-resistant design of structures, preventing them from extreme wind events including tornadoes, downbursts, and hurricanes.

Two parallel-placed adjacent high-rise buildings are often linked to each other through passive control devices for vibration mitigation purposes. The mitigation efficiency of these control devices mainly depends on the characteristics of relative dynamic responses, namely, opposite-sign and same-sign responses of the two buildings. The present res...

The present work proposes a new multituned mass damper inerter (MTMDI) system to reduce the wind-induced responses of 7 linked high-rise buildings. In the proposed system, two high-rise buildings are linked to each other by two TMDIs. Such a system exploits 8 the large relative motion between two-linked buildings (TLBs) by using an inerter to reduc...
Article
This work introduces a passive control device, shape memory alloy tuned mass damper inerter (SMA-TMDI), for the control of linked-single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems subjected to base excitation. The adjacent SDOF systems are connected through a device called inerter with force proportional to the relative acceleration of the individual SDOF os...
Article
A novel passive control device, defined as tuned liquid-column-damper–inerter (TLCDI), with nonlinear char- acteristics is developed for control of the wind-induced responses of adjacent high-rise buildings. TLCDI exploits the combined advantages of liquid sloshing inside TLCD container as well as mass amplification effects of the inerter to cont...

The inerter-based vibration absorber (IVA) is an enhanced variation of Tuned Mass Damper (TMD). The parametric optimization of absorbers in the previous research mainly considered only two decision variables, namely frequency ratio and damping ratio, and aimed to minimize peak displacement and acceleration individually under the excitation of the a...
Article
Due to the aerodynamic interference of two closely-spaced linked high-rise buildings, large out-of-phase vibrations of two buildings may be induced at across-wind direction. Tuned mass-damper-inerter (TMDI) is employed to mitigate wind-induced responses of the linked buildings. The linked buildings with TMDI takes advantage of the large relative mo...
Article
The study investigates the effectiveness of a novel tuned liquid column damper-inerter (TLCDI) for the seismic vibration control of a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) structure. First, a mathematical model of the TLCDI-equipped SDOF structure under the condition of earthquake excitation is developed. Based on the equivalent linearization method, clo...

Due to effects of strong aerodynamic interference under strong winds, large relative motion may occur in adjacent connected super-high-rise buildings. Tuned mass damper inerter ( TMDI) is a novel vibration control device, which performs well when the relative acceleration is large at both ends of the inerter. In this paper,multi-tuned mass damper in...

Question
I have an aeroelastic circular cylinder and i want to measure the torsional natural frequency using accelerometers (PCB Model 352C65 ). How can I do that?
Question
I am very much interested to start learning and applying ML techniques to wind engineering problems. I was wondering if I can find some research papers on the application of basic Machine learning techniques to structural wind engineering (including bluff body aerodynamics and aerodynamic behavior of structures under different wind events.) Where should I start if I have a basic knowledge of ML?
(Note: I know the websites, but I wanted to get an idea of the papers which used basic ML in wind engineering).
Question
Can anyone help me in providing FEMA near-field earthquake records?
Question
I have two partial differential equations and i am trying to solve them to get two optimal parameters. I am using dsolve command of matlab to find these two parameters but matlab is taking infinite time to find the solution. I will be highly thankful if someone could be of any help. I have attached the respective matlab code which i m running for the reference.
Thanks in advance !
Question
I have tried generating white noise in matlab but when i calculate psd its not a flat spectrum, can anyone provide the code or source for generating white noise and calculate its psd in matlab?
Thanks in advance
Question
Can anyone please help in verifying my numerator and denominator determinants to calculate the integral where m=6. I have attached the pdf of the reference material and also the form which i calculated. I need to make sure whether it is correct or not.
Question
Can anyone please suggest a good book on Maple, especially focussed on the optimization of the Nonlinear equations . Thanks in advance.
Question
can anyone provide me the reference mentioning advantages of TLCD over TLD.
Question
Hello, Generally for TMD we take mass as 0.5 % of the building, what is the criteria for the container of Tuned Liquid Column Damper (just container excluding liquid mass) for SDOF and MDOF systems?
