Wattle conformation as a criterion for recognizing individual adult King Vultures Sarcoramphus papa.

The wild population of the King vulture Surrorumphus pupa is declining and little is known about its breeding biology. Data on breeding the species in captivity are also rare and to date there have been no detailed studies made. This paper provides a first description of the most striking features of nest building, incubation, hatching, parental care and the development of young. The study covers seven breeding seasons between 1985 and 1992 during which time one nestling was parent reared in 1989 and another was hand-reared in 1992.
