Interactive data visualization could be beneficial to gain insight into the data concerning the inhabitant and the environment collected by an ambient assisted living system. In this paper we present BRIDGeViz that is a web-based interactive visualization tool for the BRIDGe AAL system. It is an effort to help caregivers, the main target users, to...

The increase in the average age of the world's population over the coming decades will impact several aspects of our lives. In particular, it will increase the demand and challenges of delivering care and assistance to elderly or fragile people. This article describes an ambient assisted living system, called Bridge (behaviour drift compensation fo...

The application of gestural application can vary a lot: from a simple pointing mechanism to a visual sign language. Application of gestural interaction as a sign language with a proper formalism to interact with the technology has not been studied much. In this work, we present our Kinect-based gesture recognition system that is able to recognize p...

Elderly population is growing all over the globe. Novel human-computer interaction systems and techniques are required to fill the gap between elderly reduced physical and cognitive capabilities and the smooth usage of technological artefacts densely populating our environments. Gesture-based interfaces are potentially more natural, intuitive, and...

Gestural interaction leveraging the expressiveness of the hu-man hand, either in touch or in air gestures has been a sub-ject of much research. In this work, a user study focusing mainly on static hand poses has been conducted on a het-erogeneous group of participants covering different aspects of this interaction method: role of the participants i...

With the growing usage of computer systems in daily life, a natural and intuitive Human Computer Interaction (HCI) method to support the embedding of computer systems in our environment seems necessary. Gestures are of utmost importance for the design of natural user interfaces. Hand gesture recognition to extract meaningful expressions from the hu...
Conference Paper
Our hand-based gestural interaction system (called HANDY) is able to recognize the hand shapes and dynamic hand movements of the user. Such gestural interaction system can be exploited in various applications. In this work we consider a domotic application for central control of home devices. Actions are represented as gestures composed of a sequen...

Communication is a core aspect of the human life, since it makes us able to share concepts, information and needs. In patients afflicted by pathologies like Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) an interruption of communication ability occurs: the patient must use Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) aids to recover this capability. Due t...
Conference Paper
The demographics are experiencing an elderly population growth. One of the main concerns, due to this growth, is the cost of elderly care which is rapidly rising. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) has been proposed as a solution for independent ageing in place, reducing the care costs and improving the quality of life of the elderly. Alongside with the...

Question
Part of my research concerns the understanding of the life style of elderly and fragile people in their living place (to eventually help them live there independently and autonomously as long as possible). We are gathering data from the inhabitance of such a person, localization data mainly, and we are interested to visually explore the life pattern of the person and its changes through time.
