Purpose The aim of this article is to present the Nursing Educational Framework (NEF) as an opportunity to integrate core elements of a humanistic person/family‐centered view and as guidance in structuring a relationship‐based curriculum. Data sources Empirical and theoretical literature studies were reviewed to define the framework rationale and...

Computer-based technologies have been widely used in nursing education, although the best educational modality to improve documentation and nursing diagnostic accuracy using electronic health records is still under investigation. It is important to address this gap and seek an effective way to address increased accuracy around nursing diagnoses ide...

Aims: To explore the impact of 12 American Nurses Association recognized standardized nursing terminologies (SNTs) on patient and organizational outcomes. Background: Previous studies reported an effect of SNTs on outcomes, but no previous frameworks nor meta-analyses were found. Design: Systematic review and meta-analyses. Review methods: P...
Article
Purpose: To evaluate the content and psychometric properties of comprehensive nursing assessment tools developed based on The Eleven Functional Health Patterns Assessment Framework. Methods: An integrative literature review following Whittemore and Knafl's method and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. Searche...

Aim: To explore the literature regarding how nursing narratives have been used to enhance reflective practice. Design: Theoretical review. Data sources: A literature search from 1990 - 2017 was conducted in PubMed, CINHAL and PsycINFO databases. Review methods: After applying the selection criteria, 13 studies were identified. The quality of articl...

The evolution of standardized nursing languages (SNLs) has been occurring for more than four decades. The importance of this work continues to be acknowledged as an effective strategy to delineate professional nursing practice. In today's health care environment, the demand to deliver cost-effective, safe, quality patient care is an essential manda...

Morphological, physiological and chemical studies were performed on the type strain of Corynebacterium beticola in an attempt to clarify its taxonomy. The results indicate that Corynebacterium beticola is a Gram negative, facultatively anaerobic bacterium which should be assigned to the genus Erwinia as Erwinia herbicola.
Article
Strains of 2, 4-diaminobutyric acid-containing coryneform bacteria were degraded by acid methanolysis and the non-hydroxylated fatty acid esters released examined by thin-layer and gas chromatography. The major fatty acid structural types were straight-chain, anteiso- and iso-methyl branched-chain acids. Polar lipids of the test strains were examin...
Article
Menaquinones with seven isoprene units were the major isoprenoid quinones detected in the chloroform-methanol extracts of representative strains of the genera Bacillus and Sporolactobacillus. Neither menaquinones nor ubiquinones were detected in similar extracts of strains of the genus Lactobacillus.
Article
Margaret Newman's theory, Health as Expanding Consciousness (HEC), was used to examine the life pattern of two incarcerated mothers awaiting release from prison. Pattern recognition provided a way to approach understanding the experience of incarceration in a novel fashion. The process increased trust between the mothers and the nurse, and was a us...
Article
PURPOSETo describe patients' functional health, symptom distress, and recovery at home across a fasttrack perioperative experience.METHODSA nonexperimental, descriptive, correlational design using pre/post test measures and openended questions captured the fast-tracking experience. A convenience sample included 77 patients entering the same-day sur...

The work of the Knowledge Conferences in Northeastern USA over 2 decades has been significant. A major contribution is a Consensus Statement that provides the basis for dialogue about nursing knowledge worldwide. In addition to proceedings that have been circulated, the best of the most recent series of conferences-from 1996 through the recent conf...

In many parts of the kingdom, especially in the northern and western parts, this festival is still kept up with spirit among the middling and lower classes, though its influence is on the wanc evcn with thcm; the genius of the present age requires work and not play, and since the coinmencement of this century a great change may be traced. The moder...

16S rRNA gene sequencing studies were performed on some Gram-positive coryneform bacteria of unknown taxonomic position isolated from blood and milk of healthy cows. Comparative sequence analysis demonstrated that the milk isolates corresponded to Oerskovia xanthineolytica whereas those from blood consisted of two distinct, albeit highly related sp...
Article
Corynebacterium minutissimum Sarkany, Taplin, and Black 1962 was not included on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names and consequently has no standing in bacteriological nomenclature. However, the results of numerical taxonomic, cell wall, lipid, and deoxyribonucleic acid base composition studies indicate that the organism designated the type stra...
Article
Chemical, biochemical and morphological data indicate a close relationship between the taxa "Microbacterium liquefaciens", Arthrobacter flavescens, Arthrobacter terregens, "Corynebacterium barkeri", Curtobacterium saperdae and Curtobacterium testaceum. It is proposed that the above taxa be reclassified in a new genus Aureobacterium, as Aureobacteri...
Article
Chemical, morphological and physiological data indicate a close relationship between Brevibacterium imperiale (Steinhaus), "Corynebacterium laevaniforms" (Dias and Bhat) and the species Microbacterium lacticum (Orla-Jensen). It is suggested that B. imperiale and "C. laevaniformans" be reclassified in a redefined genus Microbacterium, as Microbacter...
Article
'Corynebacterium haemolyticum' (MacLean, Liebow & Rosenberg) differs to such an extent from the type species of Corynebacterium, C. diphtheriae (Lehmann & Neumann), that it should be removed from this genus. Chemical and numerical phenetic data indicate that 'C. haemolyticum' is a distinct taxon worthy of generic status. A new genus, Arcanobacteriu...
Article
Corynebacterium pyogenes (Glage) differs to such an extent from the type species of Corynebacterium, Corynebacterium diphtheriae (Lehmann and Neumann), that it cannot be retained in this genus. Numerical phenetic and chemical data indicate a close relationship between Corynebacterium pyogenes and the species Actinomyces bovis (Harz). It is proposed...

The peptidoglycan of Corynebacterium pyogenes and "Corynebacterium haemolyticum" contained lysine as the dibasic amino acid. In addition, glutamic acid and alanine were detected in the hydrolysates. Thin-layer chromatographic analysis of whole-organism methanolysates of C. pyogenes and "C. haemolyticum" revealed the presence of single spots corresp...
Article
Corynebacterium ilicis (Mandel, Guba and Litsky) differs to such an extent from the type species of Corynebacterium, Cor. diphtheriae (Kruse), that it cannot be retained in this genus. It is suggested that Cor. ilicis be reclassified in the genus Arthrobacter as Arth. ilicis comb. nov.
Article
Natural mixtures of bacterial ubiquinones (coenzyme Q) were separated according to the length of the polyisoprenyl side-chain using reverse-phase thin-layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. The chromatographic systems described afford a rapid and sensitive means of ubiquinone characterization.
