Introduction
I hold a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences, mentioned in Civil Engineering, focusing on medical image processing, computational mechanics, and applied mathematics. My expertise is in integrating advanced image processing techniques, like filtering, segmentation, and registration, with biomechanics, finite element methods, and physics-informed machine learning. These integrations aim to enhance tools for the early and precise diagnosis of different diseases.

Patients with bone diseases often experience increased bone fragility. When bone injuries exceed the body’s natural healing capacity, they become significant obstacles. The global rise in the aging population and the escalating obesity pandemic are anticipated to lead to a notable increase in acute bone injuries in the coming years. Our research de...

Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a prevalent respiratory disease that presents a high rate of underdiagnosis during onset and early stages. Studies have shown that in mild COPD patients, remodeling of the small airways occurs concurrently with morphological changes in the proximal airways. Despite this evidence, the geo...

Abnormal deformation of blood vessels has been related to the onset and progression of prevalent cardiovascular diseases. This mechanical connection has motivated the development of computational techniques to assess strain fields in the wall of the aorta from medical images. In this work, we present the mechanics-informed snakes isogeometric analy...

The construction of accurate patient-specific geometries from medical images is critical to achieving predictive numerical simulations of the respiratory system. However, the generation of surface representations of the airway tree is very challenging due to their complex morphology. In this work, we present a novel framework for creating Non-Unifo...

Pressure Injuries are chronic wounds that are formed due to the constriction of the soft tissues against bone prominences. In order to assess these injuries, the medical personnel carry out the evaluation and diagnosis using visual methods and manual measurements, which can be inaccurate and may generate discomfort in the patients. By using segment...

Background Pressure ulcers have become subject of study in recent years due to the treatment high costs and decreased life quality from patients. These chronic wounds are related to the global life expectancy increment, being the geriatric and physical disable patients the principal affected by this condition. Injuries diagnosis and treatment usual...

A simple but efficient voice activity detector based on the Hilbert transform and a dynamic threshold is presented to be used on the pre-processing of audio signals. The algorithm to define the dynamic threshold is a modification of a convex combination found in literature. This scheme allows the detection of prosodic and silence segments on a spee...

We propose a novel analysis alternative, based on two Fourier Transforms for emotion recognition from speech. Fourier analysis allows for display and synthesizes different signals, in terms of power spectral density distributions. A spectrogram of the voice signal is obtained performing a short time Fourier Transform with Gaussian windows, this spe...
