Quality assurance programs attempt to assess the uniformity of compliance with a stated study program so that the results from one institution will indeed be comparable to those of all of the other institutions in the group. In the best situation, it should be easy to compare results from one group to those of any other group and any other studies...

A new computerized radiation treatment planning system has been developed to aid in three-dimensional treatment planning. Using interactive colour graphics in conjunction with a DPD 11/45 computer, the system can take multiple transverse contours and construct a perspective display of the treatment region showing organ surfaces as well as cross-sec...
Article
A new interactive computerized tumor registry has been established for the state of Rhode Island. The registry is implemented with new data base software which features a pagination scheme with rapid retrieval of non-coded variable data. The types of data stored are discussed as well as the computer system and methods of data entry storage and retr...
Article
A new computerized data base and retrieval system for a minicomputer has been devised for storing and retrieving clinical data. It features interactive terminal input and output using a pagination scheme as well as a subset mapping scheme for interactive retrieval. The pagination system, file structuring and retrieval system are discussed.
Article
The three-dimensional treatment planning system developed at the Rhode Island Hospital visualizes the spatial interrelationships of the radiation beam, the tumor, and the adjacent organs within the patient. It is possible to rotate and vary the scale of the display to better comprehend the extent of these structures. By viewing the display as if fr...

A quadrupole doublet lens refocuses particles of rigidities up to 400 MeV/c per unit charge scattered within an angular range of −15° to +140° from a 30 cm chamber onto a detection surface 3.0 m removed from the target. This system, herein to be called the quadrupole spectrometer, has been developed for the purpose of (1) reduction of noise and bac...

Relative excitation functions for the total neutron production and total charged-particle (proton, alpha) production above 2 MeV from 16O bombardment of natural targets of Fe, Ni, Ge, and Zr have been measured at thetalab=90o and in the bombarding energy range from 30 to 60 MeV. For the most part, the onset of reaction product yields agrees well wi...

The β-decay branching of 17N to unbound states of 17O has been measured. The intensities of the neutron groups from 17O levels at Ex = 4.55, 5.38, and 5.94 MeV result in 17N β− branching ratios of (27 ± 3), (57 ± 4), and (11 ± 2) %, respectively. The results are compared with the known mirror decay of 17Ne and with shell model calculations.
Article
The 6Li(p,3He)4He reaction was studied at incident proton energies of 12, 14, and 16 MeV. Detection of both the 3He and 4He particles in the lab defined angular distributions from about 10 to 170° c.m. The data taken as well as existing data at 8, 10, and 18.5 MeV were analyzed using a finite-range multi-interaction distorted-wave Born-approximatio...
Article
The elastic scattering of 16O by 56Fe, 70Ge, and 90Zr has been studied in the vicinity of the Coulomb barrier for the purpose of extracting optical-model parameters and barrier heights. Angular distributions were measured from 30° to 170° in the lab in 10° steps and in the bombarding energy range from 30 to 60 MeV in 2-MeV steps. No discrete ambigu...

Confinement time and ionization volume calculations have been made for batch, diffusive continuous, and selective extraction types of highly ionized, very heavy atom ion sources. For each source, the results are given for step‐by‐step only ionization by an energetic electron flux (1011 e/cm3 at 10 keV) and for ionization which...
