An arthroconidial hyphomycete on living leaves of kudzu (Pueraria montana, Fabaceae), originally described by Sawada in 1959 as Ovularia puerariae, was rediscovered. This anamorph is connected to an unknown Marasmius teleomorph belonging to section Globulares, which develops on the same living leaves. Ultrastructure and LSU rDNA sequence analysis o...
Article
Three Periconiella species were collected in Taiwan and investigated with light and scanning electron microscopy and nuc LSU rDNA analysis. A new species of Periconiella is proposed for a hyphomycete with apically branched conidiophores and relationship to Mycosphaerellaceae found on living leaves of Machilus zuihoensis and an unidentified species...
Article
Two new species of dematiaceous hyphomycetes isolated from senescent leaves of Night-scented Lily, Alocasia odora (plant family: Araceae) are described based on light and scanning electron microscopy as well as LSU rDNA sequence analysis. One of these species observed directly on the leaves and in vitro is placed in genus Parastenella because of mo...
Article
A fungus forming gelatinous sporulating structures on a dead branch in Taiwan is described as species of Trimorphomyces, because a hyphal anamorph producing zygoconidia is connected with a teleomorph with longitudinally septate basidia. The species differs from the single other known species in the genus, Trimorphomyces papilionaceus, by the produc...
Article
Based on an own collection trom Cassia fistula in Taiwan ana type specimens of Oidium cassiae-siameae and the Ovulariopsis anamorph of Phyllactinia bauhiniae var. cassiae (Ascomycota, Erysiphales), the latter is characterized in detail and recorded outside India for the first time. The conidiophores and conidia of Oidium cassiae-siameae have simila...
Article
A new species of Pseudocercospora on leaves of Acer albopurpurascens, a maple endemic to Taiwan, is described. The fungus sporulated on leaf spots caused by Vladracula annuliformis (Rhytismatales). Pseudocercospora camelliicola and Coccomyces sinensis on leaves of Camellia cultivars are recorded for the first time for Taiwan and described and illus...

Cladobotryum semicirculare sp. nov. stopping growth and development of basidiomata of Ganoderma tsugae in a Taiwanese mushroom farm was also isolated from a polypore and an agaric in Cuba. The species differs from other species in the genus by strongly curved, 0-3-septate conidia. This species concept is supported by an analysis of partial LSU rDNA...
Article
New species of Cercosporella parasitic on Thladiantha punctata (Cucurbitaceae), of Pseudocercospora on Nephrolepis auriculata (Nephrolepidaceae), and of Stenella on Myrsine seguinii (Myrsinaceae), respectively, are described from Taiwan. Periconiella rachidicola is for the first time recorded from Asia on the new host plant Angiopteris lygodiifolia...
Article
A cercosporoid hyphomycete parasitic on Itea parviflora in Taiwan is described as the new species Stenella iteae. The grass-parasitic hyphomycete Phacellium paspali is for the first time reported for Asia from the new host plant Setaria palmifolia. Distocercospora pachyderma on Dioscorea sp. is for the first time reported for Taiwan. New details of...
Article
Ceratosporium verrucosum and Diplocladiella alta are described as new species. Ceratosporium verrucosum was found on a dead bamboo culm and D. alta on rotting wood in Taiwan. Compared with the other species of Ceratosporium, C. verrucosum differs by the verrucose ornamentation covering the arms of the conidia. Diplocladiella alta is easily distingu...

Amauromyces farinaceous is investigated. The species is a rare corticiaceous Homobasidiomycete recently collected in Taiwan. The unique basidial morphology, cell walls and septal pores of the hyphae are studied by transmission electron microscopy. The study demonstrates the gradual thickening of cell walls in the lower parts of young basidia, leavi...
Article
A hyphomycete producing hemi-circinate, hyaline, aseptate conidia from clamped conidiophores in gelatinous sporodochia was discovered in Taiwan. In view of its unique combination of characteristics, the new genus Helicomyxa and the new species H. everhartioides are proposed. Morphological and ultrastructural studies as well as an analysis of partia...
Article
A new genus, Heterorepetobasidium, is proposed to accommodate two new species, H. subglobosum and H. ellipsoideum, recently collected in Taiwan. These species have apically, partially septate basidia, strongly swollen sterigmata, and repetobasidia. The systematics of the new taxa and related ones, inclusive of Ceratobasidium and the Ceratobasidiace...

A new species of the dematiaceous hyphomycete genus Dictyochaeta was collected on a dead twig in Taiwan. It is characterised by solitary conidiophores and reniform, non-septate conidia with several setulae at each end. The species is compared with other species having non-septate, setulate conidia and is described as Dictyochaeta multifimbriata.
Article
Tremella occultifuroidea, a new parasite of dacrymycetaceous fungi is described. It differs from knownTremella parasites in dacrymycetaceous hosts by thick-walled dikaryotic conidia, terminally and repeatedly originating from conidiogenous cells, thus resembling those ofT. polyporina by Koske,T. obscura by Christiansen andOccultifur internus.
Article
Of nine names of the Rhytismatales reported for Taiwan, only five, Coccomyces foliicola, Lophodermium mangiferae, L. pinastri, Rhytisma placenta, and Vladracula annuliformis, are retained. The other four are either invalid or incorrect. Recently, additional specimens were collected and identified. They include a new species, Coccomyces taiwanensis...
