Introduction
I am a California native who developed an interested in crocodilians at a young age. During much of my late teens and 20s I worked as a photographer, which included a significant amount of wildlife photography, but shortly before turning 30 I found my way back to crocodilians and started a worldwide crocodilian attack database which has, as of March 2023, amassed around 8000 records. I am currently studying human-saltwater crocodile conflict throughout the entire range of the species in Darwin.

Little is known regarding the historical distribution of saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) in Vietnam. In this article, we present evidence of historical distribution based on both published and anecdotal records.

Crocodile attacks on humans and subsequent retaliations are a pressing issue for saltwater crocodile conservation. As human-crocodile conflict is complex, integrating social and ecological information better explains the drivers and patterns of these interactions. Our study aims to incorporate ecological factors associated with the intensity of cro...

Context Increasing human–crocodile conflict (HCC) is a major conservation and management issue. Although three species are responsible for most attacks, on occasion, some slender-snouted species, such as tomistoma (Tomistoma schlegelii), are also implicated. Aims To analyse reports of confirmed and suspected attacks on humans by tomistoma and explo...

FIRTS RECORS OF THE AMERICAN CROCODILE (CROCODYLUS ACUTUS) IN BAJA CALIFORNIA
Article
Saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) are extensively distributed throughout South-east Asia, including the Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara (ENT), and they account for hundreds of attacks on people annually. Recorded incidents not only tell us where crocodiles are found (useful when survey data are limited), but importantly can improv...

Mitigating harmful interactions with wildlife requires an understanding of the interactions between predators, domesticated animals and humans. Large‐scale transformations of crocodilian habitats across the Latin America and Caribbean region, alongside significant use of crocodilians as a resource, and retaliatory killing of crocodilians following...

East Nusa Tenggara is a province in Indonesian consisting of much of the eastern Lesser Sunda Islands (including Flores, Sumba and the western half of the island of Timor). Historically the Saltwater crocodile, Crocodylus porosus, was present within suitable habitat throughout virtually all portions of East Nusa Tenggara, but hide-hunting during th...

Borneo is the largest island within the Greater Sunda Islands archipelago, which it shares with the of Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi. Borneo itself is split amongst three nations-Indonesia (the provinces of West, Central, South, East and North Kalimantan), Malaysia (the states of Sabah and Sarawak), and the sovereign state of Brunei. Three species of...

The Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) is likely responsible for more human deaths than all other crocodilian species, but obtaining detailed information on these attacks has proven difficult throughout much of the range of the species. While ample data exists for some countries (eg Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe) in other countries, wh...

Saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) are potentially dangerous to humans, yet they have major cultural value to many people in Timor-Leste. Recent increases in attack risk are influencing traditional attitudes, threatening culls of remaining wild crocodile populations. To understand patterns that may assist mitigation, we compiled attack recor...

36 INDONESIA. The limited historical information available suggests that the Saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) was once widely distributed throughout Java and the Lesser Sunda Islands. Records of attacks from the CrocBITE database (www.crocodile-attack.info) reveal human-crocodile conflict occurred throughout East Java during the early 20th...

Mexico RECENT REPORTS OF FATAL ATTACKS ON HUMANS BY CROCODILES IN MEXICO. The New World has four species of crocodilian which on rare occasions are responsible for fatal attacks on humans; American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus), Morelet's crocodile (C. moreletii), Black caiman (Melanosuchus niger) and American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)...

Amongst the South American crocodilian species, Moreletʼs crocodile is less commonly implicated in attacks on humans than C. acutus and the Black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), but nonetheless non-fatal attacks are reported every year. Anecdotal and unconfirmed records of man-eating Moreletʼs crocodiles exist for Belize and Guatemala (Marlin et al. 1...

As the country with the highest number of recent attack reports and very little crocodile population data, Indonesia is a perfect example of how CrocBITE can be used as a tool to help inform crocodilian conservation and management. Indonesia is a large, heavily populated nation composed of 34 provinces over an archipelago of 17,508 islands. There a...

Attacks on humans by crocodilians have been documented reasonably well in developed countries in the last few decades. Conversely, attacks in developing countries are typically poorly documented despite those countries holding the highest frequencies of crocodilian attacks. Here we present the results of an analysis of 1237 crocodilian attacks resu...

Conversely, attacks in developing countries are typically poorly documented despite those countries holding the highest frequencies of crocodilian attacks. Here we present the results of an analysis of over 600 crocodilian attacks...
