Which software can I use for solar cell simulation?

I have no knowledge about solar cell simulation. I want to learn about solar cell simulation. Please suggest such software by which I can learn essential knowledge in simulation and which help me in the internship to find in a good solar company.

2. Silvaco (all types of solar cell) 
3. Sentaurus TCAD (Synopsys TCAD)
In the last two software, you can simulate wide variety of solar cell including quantum dot also. However, Lumerical has some disadvantages and new physics like excitonic behavior can't be added to it :)

Pvsyst is one of most widely used software for PV solar system.  You can download it from Google free of cost.  You will get one month trail version.

SCAPS is easy to use for kinds of solar cells (CdTe, CIGS, OVP, perovskite, c-Si... ).
AFORS-HET is similar to SCAPS, which is widely used in c-Si based heterojunction solar cells.
Quokka and Sentaurus Device are the most powerful tools developed for simulation of solar cells (photoelectronic semiconductor devices), they are often used by companies.

Hi Mohit,
So it depends on what type of solar cell you would like to simulate. For crystalline silicon solar cells where the material is fairly ordered, you can get away with using most device models. However, if you are interested in modeling novel think film disordered solar cells such as OPV/small molecule, the thing you have to be careful about is modeling the trap states correctly. Standard device models often do not worry about discribing the charge in the trap states correctly, this is important in steady state, but becomes more important in time domain. If trapping is not taken into account correctly, then charge densities will be wrong, and so will recombination rates. On the other hand, if you are interested in modeling perovskite solar cells, then you have to make sure that you can simulate mobile ions, again standard solvers will not be able to do this. I'm slightly bias in this answer (as I develop it), but I would recommend gpvdm, as it has been explicitly written to handle trapping correctly for novel disordered solar cells, and mobile ions.

For just designing fa, like installing solar panel in field and get idea about them you can use MATLAB/Simulink. And if you want to design a cell from materials you can use Lumerical, Silvaco etc.

There are open source softwares like AFORS HET, SCAPS and PC 1D available for solar cell simulation.
However the simulators like Silvaco, Sentaurus and Lumerical are better for indepth analysis of variety of solar cells.
The simulation Software SETFOS (https://www.fluxim.com/setfos-intro) allows you to simulate perovskite and organic solar cells both optically and electrically. You will have a complete picture of your device both in DC, AC, and Transients. It is also a software for "predictions". You can use it also for your experimental work if you want to spend less time in the laboratory. First, you understand with the simulation which are the parameters (materials, thickness...) for an optimal solar cell. This allows you to go to the lab with already a good feeling on what to fabricate.

SCAPS is a very good option for simulating a solar cell as its user friendly and free of cost. Whereas, FLUXIM is costly and fluctuation in result can be seen mostly.

All of Software, which Rajiv Ranjan Thakur recommended, aren't free. If you want to use free software, you cannot simulate properly the solar cells in wide range. Because, simulation by using from them is limited due to they are very simple. So, I recommend to use from Silvaco or Sentaurus TCAD.
