Please guide me,

I am trying to see the effects of self weight of bodies M2 and M3 on the springs S1, S2 and S3 (Fig attached). Body M1 is fixed rigidly. All the three bodies are meshed with shell 63 elements and all of them are assemblies of 3 components of different E values. I tried with applying command CMACEL, but didn't work. This command has a note: ''The elements you use cannot be part of more than one component, and elements that share nodes cannot exist in different element components''. But some of the nodes of one component are also a part of another component.

Can I use ACEL command to analysis the same? If yes then how?

All the the bodies are components of different Young's modulus.

Do I need to apply Mass 21 element at the COM of each body along with DENS properties? Or applying DENS property on the shell elements will do? There is also surface contact between Body1 and Body2 and Body1 and Body3.

If any other alternative is possible please enlighten me..

I want to check the soundness of a bolted joint using Finite element analysis. I have both uni-graphics (UGNX) and Ansys softwares. I have been using FEM technique for optimizing the hydro turbine components, which are linear static problems. I am doing this FEM of bolted joint for the first time. Could you please explain me how to proceed and which type of mesh element we should use. Shoud I model the components separately and then join them or model all the components together?

I have force and displacement data of 15 loop of cyclic loading in excel file. How can I calculate the Hysteresis area in every cycle (the area between loading and unloading in cyclic loading in force vs displacement graph)? I want to compare these areas. actually we can solve it using Trapezoidal Rule (area = { [ f(a)+f(b) ] /2 } * (b-a)) but does anyone know a MATLAB  code or a Macro for this calculation?vthank you 

I believe that many of you are academic researchers as well as research students' supervisors. And I think you would agree with me that your students are easier to track down online (e.g. on Facebook). Gradually, I developed a habit of communicating and discussing research ideas with the students using these online social networks. However, I find it difficult to collect the discussions which have occurred on these platforms. The messaging services/chatrooms in particular. Is there any good collaborative platform that solve this problem. Well, I know you would probably mention Google's or Version Controls. They are good if you have a well-planned project to run. What about those discussions or casual chats during random brainstormings or daily interactions? The ideal platform would be like a note-taker to record all these little things. Of course, it would also support the usual stuff like emailing and file-transferring. I'd like to hear your ideas and maybe how you use existing technologies such as FB/Whatsapp to achieve the same goal.

I have a 2 part liquid epoxy resin which hardens at room temperature in 24 hs. I'm using it to seal contacts in glassy carbon and graphite electrodes, and it is quite resistant to acetone, methanol, acetonitrile and many solvents, but it is dissolved by dichloromethane and tetrahydrofuran. I'm looking for ways to increase resistance to those solvents. Would curing at higher temperature, increase the hardener to epoxy ratio, or adding polar additives help? Particularly, would adding insoluble salts to the epoxy mixture help?

I am investigating different grades of TPU with different thickness ranging from 80 µm to 600 µm. I have seen different stretching behaviour with the same substrate with different thickness ( 200 µm, 400 µm and 600 µm). Why is that ? The chemical compostion of the substrate remains same just the thickness is varying. In my results I observed that the thicker the substrate the more it is able to strech before the conductive track shows some deformation (Cracks). Why is that can anyone explain this behaviour ?
