How to find the cross section area in ANSYS Mechanical?

I am simulating the deformation (collapse) of a tube made of silicon and I want to find the cross-section area of the deformed tube in Ansys mechanical

Most recent answer

Hi Mohammad Amin Faghihi Zarandi. I believe another way to do this would be to model a dummy surface of negligible thickness ( and hence stiffness) at the cross-section and after simulation, update the geometry and check the area of the deformed dummy surface.

Define a surface by using construction geometry and plot you result on this surface.
Hope this will be helpful.
Hi Mohammad Amin Faghihi Zarandi. I suggest you do geometry update after the solution. this will give you a CAD model of the deformed geometry. After that you may measure the cross sectional parameters.

Cehnpin Hsu WHat do you mean by construction geometry?

Cehnpin Hsu I tried it but it does not work unfortunately

Lets clearify which part that doesn't work.
(1)Do you mean the deformation result is that you don't expect?
(2)Or, do you have trouble with making a construction geometry?
For (1), it only can show you the deformation result contour on the construction geometry you made. If you need to plot the area, I don't know how to do as well.
For (2), you can refer to the instruction below.

Cehnpin Hsu Actually none of them. The problem is that even I create the surface, I do not know how to find the area. The problem is the hollow space that I want to find its area not the deformed section (shown on the attached file)

Hello,
I have actually exactly the same issue, i'm also simulating a two way FSI collapsing tube in a transient simulation. I need to know the area during all the steps time, did you find your answer?

We report the simulation of integrated piezoresistive silicon accelerometers using the general purpose finite-element program ANSYS. Modelling of stress patterns and deflections due to applied forces as well as to the fabrication process (bipolar technology) are demonstrated. Predictions of resonant modes and resonant frequencies are also reported.
