Global layer on solar radiation?

Does anybody know an openly accessible source of global solar radiation, at a resolution of 1 kilometer?

Sorry dear colleague’s and partners, not to answer to your interesting question, but I have to inform You that I are fading out of the AIRBUS company at the 21rst of May to start my retirement. Than possibly I will have no access any more to your forum.

Best greetings

Typically most people use TMY3 data which has an hourly resolution for a typical year in a place (city). NREL also has some other databases in collaboration with some local laboratories that collects meteorological data. It totally depends on the area you're looking for. Check this website: http://www.nrel.gov/rredc/

Are you talking about a GIS layer? For what area or continent? In any case, the resolution you ask for (1 km) is extremely demanding. Only a few commercial products can currently provide this.
NREL has plans to develop 1-km data for the US based on a new GOES satellite, but it is not even launched yet, so you'll have to wait some 3 years for such a product. The current NREL products (over the US) are at 4-km resolution. GIS-type resource maps for other world regions, and at usually coarser resolution, are available from JRC-PVGIS (http://re.jrc.ec.europa.eu/pvgis/), UNEP-SWERA (http://en.openei.org/wiki/SWERA/Data) and GlobalAtlas (http://irena.masdar.ac.ae/?map%20749#).

As I already suspected there is no global GIS layer with 1 km resolution freely available at this moment. Thank you in any case for your answers and suggestions

A number of years of data on the global irradiation incident on a horizontal surface in Beer Sheva, Israel (lat. = 31°15′N, long. = 34°48′E, elevation ∼ 240 m) have been correlated. It is apparent from these data that this locale possesses a relatively high abundance of sunshine. The average cumulative annual irradiation is 6722MJ/m2 and the averag...

This paper is concerned with the geometrical analysis of a Nubian vault and a hemispherical dome shaped building. From a rigorous analysis, exact expressions have been established for the angle of incidence of solar radiation at these surfaces. These expressions are then used to calculate the total incident solar radiation at different times and at...
