Can anyone help to describe the calyx in the following photographs? Can the calyx be called 'persistent'?

The calyx, corolla and the androecium remains as an unit in the developing ovary for a while and gets pushed off towards the tip gradually when the fruit formation takes place. At one point, it appears as if the flower has inferior ovary. Once the fruit attains its full size, but, still green, the calyx, corolla and the androecium fall off as one unit. In this case, the lobes are divided.

Calyx is not persistent in Bombax malabaricum. Itis evident from image 1, 2 & Image 4 where fruits are without persistent sepals.

the word "Persistent" is used when the calyx (at least a portion) remain with the fruit at matured stage

Pense no caso do caqui, ele tem as brácteas no fruto, que são as sépalas (cálice persistente).

Thank you Dr. Peterson and Dr. Ayyappan. But, in case of the example I am considering, the calyx is there in fruit but, not in its original position. One of the functions of calyx is protection. Here in this case also, the calyx is protecting the fruit apex. (Can we assume so?). Considering that, can one say that the calyx is persistent?

No; better do not use such words....; see abscission layer has formed already; those parts are detached from its original position. the fruit tip is nothing but the pistil portion, which is also going to be detached after sometime.

In Bombax calyx is not persistant, It is a matter of delay only of 2 or 3 days more the flower parts remain on the developing gynoecium.

Calyx is said to be persistent when it remains attached to the fruits e.g. - Solanum melangena
