The crankshaft is an engine component that converts the linear (reciprocating) motion of the piston into rotary motion. Features of a crankshaft include the crankpin journal, throw, bearing journals, counterweights, crank gear, and a power take-off (PTO). Crankshafts are machined through a sequence of automated operations that remove material using...

The design of deep excavation problems is considered a huge challenge for the designers. Both 2D and 3D modelling are usually considered in the analysis and design. The results of the straining actions including bending moments, shear forces and normal forces as well as forces in lateral supports may differ in case of 2D and 3D analysis. The wall d...

In this study, an aluminium alloy of AA5182 is taken as the research object to study strain hardening under large plastic deformation. Tensile tests are done for four specimens, including dog-bone specimens, notched specimens, specimens with a central hole and in-plane shear specimens. Bulging tests are also conducted to measure strain hardening un...

The three-dimensional model of the hyperelastic body under large strains is researched. A new strain measure, based on the QR-decomposition of the deformation gradient, is discussed. It is shown that this strain measure allows for more explicit analytical connections between different parameters of the stress–strain condition then the traditional a...

Basalt fiber (pf) is derived from basalt rock, which can be separated to form fiber, which when mixed with polymer forms basalt fiber reinforced polymer (pfrp). In this paper chemical constituent, mechanical properties and durability of bf is reviewed. Also, properties of bfrp like temperature variation and adhesion is also discussed. It is observed that bfrp is better than carbon fiber reinforced polymer when it comes to cost effectiveness and in comparison, to glass fiber reinforced polymer it got better strength therefore becoming a good alternative to other fiber materials. Bfrp has high flexural strength and better adhesion as compared to cfrp and gfrp, when temperature increases mechanical and thermal properties of bfrp reduces remarkably.
... Roberto Sosa / Guillermo Artana / Eric Moreau / Gerard Touched, In this project, the airflow modifications around a NACA 0015 airfoil when electro-hydrodynamic forces disturbed the flow. The actuation was developed with a plasma sheet system (PSD) consisting of two flush bare electrodes mounted on the wing profile surface to obtain a discharge in the inter-electrode space contouring the body [10].Three different behaviors may be defined according to the angle of incidence and to the receptivity of the flow to the actuation: close, middle and deep poststall regime. In the first scheme, a complete or almost complete reattachment of the flow can be accomplished either by an effective change of the excitation frequency or by the power supplied to the actuator. ...

The present study focuses on improving the efficiency of an aerodynamic aerofoil by using a plasma actuator to minimize the introduction of flow separation around the leading edge. Methods that use small devices that require extra energy to change the flow are called methods of active flow control l. From this point of view, the use of flow control plasma actuators is a good alternative to encouraging the alteration of the boundary layer profile. For aerodynamic applications, the absence of moving parts and the simple use of power can be interesting features. The actuation was developed with a plasma sheet system (PSD) consisting of two flush bare electrodes mounted on the wing profile's leading edge surface to obtain a discharge in the inter-electrode space contouring the body. Following the aerofoil leading edge curvature and running over 90% of the span, it is worked to achieve a discharge. By applying momentum tangentially to the wall to the boundary layer, the surface dielectric barrier discharge is used to change velocity close to the leading edge. The various angle of attack and flow separation outcomes to be performed should be checked later in the wind tunnel.

The Coherent (AA6061-T6 and AA5083-H111) aluminum alloys were carried out using solid-state friction stir welding techniques and the welding parameters were improved using the response surface method by the design of experiment. Tests were conducted based on a five-level, four-parameter, and 31-run central composite design. Friction welding parameters such as rotational rate, translational rate, and tool pin geometry and applied load significantly affect the mechanical properties of friction welded joints. Mathematical regression models are developed at a 95 % confidence level to evaluate the maximized tensile strength and % of elongation of dissimilar joints and validated using the conformity of experiments. Pin profiles are analyzed in detail for different process parameters induced in material flow distributions and tensile properties of different welding joints. The fabricated joints of the defect-free weld, highest tensile strength and maximum tensile elongation were achieved by cylindrical threaded profile, whereas the hexagonal profile prompts the lowest tensile strength and tensile elongation. The regression analysis of the developed mathematical model good agreed with the test results. Mathematical results can be useful to understand the effect of optimal parameters, to create joints with adequate mechanical properties, and to automate the friction welding process.
